Living Up to Our Potential

Did your ever think/worry about that? It reminds me of when my Father died. His illness had been a hard couple of years for my mother, and she needed a break — with someone who understood. So we had a good week together. One thing we did was visit a couple she hadn’t seen in years, and it was a nostalgic, heartwarming visit. As we were saying goodbye, the fellow said to me,

You were such a smart little thing. It’s too bad you didn’t do anything with it.

So much for that loving mood. I wasn’t offended because I was taking ten years off to stay home with my daughter, and my life had never felt more meaningful. I didn’t try to explain — he reminded me of how lucky I was.
