Andy and I used old-fashioned road Atlases. When we traveled we would get a new Rand McNally one from our insurance company each year.
I sorely missed that a few weeks ago when I was trying to see where a wildfire was in relation to our town. Maps on the internet didn’t have enough resolution for what I needed, so I ordered an atlas from Amazon.
I love looking at maps, and I like the spiral-bound version because it’s easier to hold. I’m just grateful they still make them. Do you use maps much?

I remember those road atlas! The first road trip Torben and I took he went to AAA and got the triptick, I believe it was called. The woman patiently highlighting our entire route by hand. Those were useful for more granularity for smaller towns, but I always liked the atlas best. Torben and I were discussing this on our last trip – if our nav failed we would be lost on backroads. I still map in my head interstate routes and “the next big city” to follow on road signs.
Getting nostalgic here – I loved how the atlas would mark scenic routes. You can find all of that on the internet, but it was always fun to see these things on the atlas while driving.
…I love maps, but GPS can be handy too!
oh..this brings back fun memories. Sam and I traveled a lot when our girls were little. our vacations are still great memories for them. We always had that big map book out and I actually still have it. oh how the world has changed
I always liked maps too and used them lots back in the day!
We don’t use maps. But Phil loves using them for his bible research. We depend on Waze. I love the cartoon, the girl reminds me of Lucy. You asked me about the crystal spider. It was for sale at home Goods as a Halloween decoration. Wish I had looked at the price tag, it would have been fun to guess.
My Dave loves maps. He researches everything. We were once in a city we’d never been to before; he was in the left lane but I knew our exit was coming up so I asked him about it. He said it felt to him like it would be a left exit. He was right! The only time I have ever seen him disoriented was inside the Mall of America!
I loved our spiral-bound Atlas …. and now I’ve no idea whatever became of it. Like Kaitlin, back in the day we’d order a Triptik from AAA.
I don’t drive and don’t use maps. But I do enjoy seeing them.
In many ways, roadmaps were more accurate.

Mark keeps a road atlas. He only recently allowed me to setup using Siri and Google Maps. We will see how long this lasts.
This is funny, my hubs and I started cleaning out a cabinet and threw some out this past weekend – it hurt – I was kind of sad.
I love maps.. We always had a map in the car for GA and FL, when I lived with my parents. we added maps for the trip to KY but I don’t know if we had an atlas. I used an At last the first time in 1983, when we put 90,000 miles on a new J.B. Hunt truck, doing long hauls from Maine to Jolly Green Valley CA and back and forth for 3 months east to west coast and south to north, long Hauls
I mapped 90,000 miles and fell in love with maps.
When I married Bob in 1985 and I moved from Bradenton to St Petersburg, I bought a St Pete mat, drew a circle around our house to learn how to find what I needed. I was afraid to leave the house without the map because it was a city I had never been to… I still have FL GA St Pete Bradenton maps and 2 Atlas, of course they are all 40 years old now
