Different People Like Different Things

Never do unto others as you would have others do unto you. They might have different tastes.
—George Bernard Shaw

Does it ever bother you that other people look at the world differently from you? That they have different tastes? Or do you think that makes life more fascinating?

Some days when I feel small, insignificant, tired, a little grumpy I want everyone to be like me. I don’t want to deal with anything complicating.

Other days I like diversity & hearing different views. I’m working on being this way.

I have got used to the fact that I am NEVER going to see the world the same as others!

90% of my realtime friends have very little notion of where my life has gone, is and will go…and the reason I say that is they are forever asking me “what are you going to do?”

Nevermind the fact that when I was homebound for well over a decade they never asked much at all except to tell me how I could get better – bombarding me with lots of info from somewhat shady quacks…

Now because I’m mostly upright it seems that my life should be re-moulded into some norm sort of way…I ain’t doing that which angers many 🙂

And they continue with the absurd question “now what are you going to do?”

    bikehikebabe,
I agree that we have to take care of ourselves to be flexible and open to differences.

    Cathy,
So how do you answer them? Except maybe to say, “Whatever I feel like doing.”

Jean: at first I would say “work in progress” but just lately I have just shrugged my shoulders and basically changed the subject and walk away…

the other day I tried to explain to one about what it was going to do AND basically I got the “no, you can’t…why would you!” not in a question mode though…

tonight, with my best friend (who has just gotten back from 6wks in Aussie) she said that she didn’t need to know… whatever and she was sure it will work. I hadn’t actually said what I was going to do other than it was (in no particular order) : writing, paper, educational, fun. That I had made a kind of sample to show someone next week who could possibly help me fund some of the machinery required…

In today’s shrunken world, to expect others to look at the world the same way as I do, would be naive. It is the variety that makes the world such a fascinating place to observe and live in.

Ursula disagrees with people. It’s her take on the subject & she makes good points. It’s her style & she writes better than any blog I’ve seen. (Excluding you Jean, of course.)

Sometimes Conrad lets U’s comments “die on the vine”. I’m quoting him. –He writes well too.

Oh and Rummuser is an excellent writer too. And Abbie, so very funny. But that’s all. (sorry about the judgements)

    P.S. 🙂

  8. Jean says:

    Rummuser,
I find people fascinating too. Fascinating and mentally stimulating. It does stretch my brain to try to imagine what it would be like to be a politician or a terrorist. 😀

    bikehikebabe,
Yes, we have a wealth of choices!

  9. Rummuser says:

Jean, the best way to find out is to become one!:-)

  10. Jean says:

    Rummuser,
Yeah, sure. I think I’ll just pass on that for now. 😀
