Good News and Bad News

There were good news and bad news this week. The septic system was installed, inspected, and buried:

The shed site was prepared and inspected:

And the trenches and rebar for the footings for the house were installed and inspected:

The good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, they will pour the concrete tomorrow, even though it’s Veteran’s Day. That is indeed good news.

On the other hand, Andy has been hobbling around because of back trouble the past two days. I got out our emergency cane and we’re joking (we hope) about buying an emergency walker. But chances are active rest will stop the spasms in the fullness of time.

How are things going with you?

(Andy took a gazillion pictures this week, especially of installing the septic system and preparing the shed site and footings for the house. They start here.)

Thanks to Ursula, Cathy, Evan, bikehikebabe and Rummuser for commenting on last week’s post.

Looks like things are moving well for you, with even the weather somewhat cooperating. We got 4.5 inches out of that last system.

  2. bikehikebabe says:

Hey Mike, I love your new pic. You look well in orange.

I don’t think Andy will need a walker but I borrowed one with wheels after my hip replacement, from Freecycle.

bikehikebabe — Thanks, it’s one of my favorite shirts. It just got replaced with a new one from the same place and is now relegated to a work shirt status. 😉

great about the rebuilding…and the pictures tell a great story.

Andy’s back will come right. Have some horizontal and upright time; take the meds and think of the new home arising from the ashes

life here is pretty good…still not prepared to reveal the bright and new decision for my future. Although the side salad and trimmings are all in place; the meat is not! I have had to refocus the meat a couple of times…and yesterday there was a slight turnabout that I hadn’t quite thought would happen!

one of the people in the focused-meat line will not be in town for a week so I’m guessing that I will make announcement around the end of the month on the exact details!

it’s not earth shattering but it will give me “something exciting but also scary” to do for a few more years of my life…

Everyone is wearing orange. Where is this buffet? I’ll eat the salad & trimmings while the meat is cooking. That’s what we do here at home.

  6. Cathy in NZ says:

the buffet preparation is locked in my pretty little head!

Hope Andy gets better quickly. This reminds me that I was hurting badly about two years ago so I bought a walking cane to help me hobble around. Thankfully things have gotten better so that the cane just stays in its place. There is a scientific principle that says that the knee wouldn’t have healed unless I had bought the cane.

    Mike,
Yes, we really lucked out on the weather. Andy says there were four concrete trucks and 12 guys (including him) up there today. They did pour the footings for the house and the slab for the shed. They covered the concrete well to protect it. Andy took a lot of pictures and I plan to put them up on Flickr tomorrow.

I agree with BHB about the new shirt.

    bikehikebabe,
Yes, Freecycle is great. So far I haven’t gotten anything from it but I have given away some good stuff that needed a new home.

    Cathy,
I’m looking forward to hearing about your new plans! Adventures are more fun when we share them.

    Looney,
Yes, I have noticed that law too. The nice thing about canes is they don’t take up much room, but I would consider buying Andy a walker if it would speed up the healing process. 🙂

His back may already be epsilon better tonight so I’ll wait a bit.

  9. Evan says:

    Hope Andy gets better soon.

Last couple of days very demanding for me, but things seem to be settling down today.

  10. Rummuser says:

Sorry to hear about Andy’s back. It can be brutal when one is so preoccupied with urgent work. I wish that I could send one of my walkers or a pair of elbow crutches to help out! How things are going with me can be found out on my weekly Saturday post. Mostly well, but touched with a bit of disappointment too.

  11. Jean says:

    Evan,
Thank you, and I’m glad things are easing up for you.

    Rummuser,
He is taking it easy when he can and lies down a lot when he’s here at home. It seems to help.

Sorry about the disappointment with your hip, but at least it does seem to be healing…in its own good time.
