Not Quite Spring Yet

In spite of the storms the end of autumn and the first few days of winter, it has turned out to be a mild winter so far. The snow is starting to melt where the sun hits it. However, it was too snowy and windy early this week for Greg and his crew to work on the solar array.

Not surprisingly Andy says he notices the wind is a lot stronger up there now that the trees are gone. Sometimes it shakes the car when he sits inside it to eat his lunch. Joe is starting to work on getting the permit to insulate the shed and install a heater, so presumably in the fullness of time Andy will be able to eat in a bit more luxury. Luxury, of course, is in the eyes of the beholder. 😀

One of my big luxuries right now is belonging to audible.com and having people read to me. That plus all the information the internet puts at my finger tips. I feel privileged and rich. What about you? What are your favorite luxuries?

I had to laugh when I read your title Not Quite Spring Yet. I bet you were thinking of Spring. Funny thing about Los Alamos. We get a few warm balmy days & I think Spring is here. This happens every March, maybe even February.
I remember it snowed most every day one April.

My luxury is the best of TV in the evening, recorded so we eliminate commercials. Tonight was 4 * movie, Mississippi Burning with Gene Hackman, made in 1988. Hope you can see it.

It is currently 6degrees farenheit (-12 windchill) with dire warnings of an impending storm…spring comes late here. We have been trying Apple TV, which gives us netflix online viewing options in addition to recorded TV.

The balmy weather here sure seems like spring. We’ve even got daffodils starting to come up. We’ve still got February yet before that should happen here. I expect at least one more good cold snap here.

So far as luxuries, so much of what we take for granted would have been taken for granted in the not too distant past, all made possible by innovation and abundant energy, though none of it has proven “too cheap to meter.”

when I saw the title of your post…I thought, “no way” we only just got Summer up out of bed – I don’t need Autumn (Fall) yet!

I have a number of luxuries (current ones):

have a laptop and being on my bed with it along with a tri-pillow as a backrest. this room catches the morning sun so it’s gorgeous. I can’t see the traffic, but I can hear but also I hear the birds…

I have freedom to chose what I might do on any one day

I don’t have to consult anyone else on lots of matters: how much to eat, what food, which hour, get up, go out and so on…

yesterday around mid morning, I decided to watch a DVD that I got from the library on my laptop, where of course right here on the bed. I had the machine to one side and when I needed to get a quick drink (it was hot yesterday), paused it all and then came back for some more viewing…

today, I’m going out to an event to do with Embroidery friends, where we will talk alot, do some mini project, maybe some embroidery – people come and go but my chauffeur stays all day…the home is in a large hilly garden but there are lots of spaces for everyone. Oh, we have a shared fingerfood lunch as well…so it’s fun, fun, fun 🙂

tomorrow…who knows, probably some more decluttering which is also at leisure, almost a luxury of doing it slowly 🙂 🙂

    bikehikebabe,
We had a picnic up on the land with relatives one Memorial Day. It snowed a bit and they were not impressed by our weather! But that wasn’t winter, it was springtime in the Rockies.

    Kaitlin,
Now that’s what I call winter!

As you know, I’m a great Netflix fan. I occasionally even watch it on my iPod…if I’m very tired or sick and am recovering in bed.

    Mike,
We sometimes have problem with warm spells followed by cold snaps. It often happens with apricot trees around here. The trees blossom, then the cold hits and the fruit is lost for the season.

The case I remember most was when the big deciduous trees started to have leaves and we had a heavy, wet snow. A lot of the branches case crashing down. I remember that one because I was walking home when I heard a crash and realized I needed to take another route.

    Cathy,
Being able to set our own schedules is a big one. I have a strange circadian rhythm and was sleep deprived for years. Now I set my own hours and sleep just fine.

    Evan,
I need a lot of time to mull things over and I’m guessing you do too. In the past if I were too busy during the day my mind would take that time in the middle of the night. My present schedule is like heaven to me.

Right on top of my list of luxuries is my two invaluable domestics. Seeing how my neighbors and friends have problems, I consider myself blessed for these two people. The next one is having my son living with me to sort out all the problems of my computer related life and other domestic problems that keep cropping up now and then. The third is the fact that I live in this wonderful neighbourhood / city and can afford to live a life of relative ease despite my current physical limitations.

    Rummuser,
It sounds as if you are indeed blessed!
