Moving Right Along

We now have our two patios! They have also started the wiring for the shed and will start working on the well house tomorrow. We’ve signed the contract for the house and they plan to start framing it Monday. No doubt there will be more pictures. 🙂

Anything new with you?

Thanks to Evan, Cathy and Rummuser for commenting on last week’s post.

We had a dry winter. Hot weather is predicted for the Southwest. Also we’re to expect lightening in the mountains which translates to forest fires. You don’t have to worry. You already had your forest fire 🙂

  2. Jean says:

    bikehikebabe,
Yes, no trees left to burn. For better or for worse.

Trying to think what is new here…

Oh, that’s right I’m in the B-zone of the suspect Queensland Fruit Fly that showed up in a regular bug trap. Just one guy has been seen but that meant, I got a visit from a guy in a cool uniform, shiny boots and banishing a bunch of papers about what I should do when/where!

I just bl**dy well hope this doesn’t turn into a “spraying zone” – which hit us a few years ago…it was dreadful and the spray wasn’t nice at all – in the process the wild duck population along with stream life suffered. Of course, the bl**dy depts said rubbish but it was true because at the time I had a conservationist living here and he took the local councillor to view the problems! People with senstivities got very ill…but still the airplanes flew low over residential areas! often at 5am…

Currently, I’m still trying to find the supposed “bins” to dump my veg/fruit scraps in! Really hard to deal with because I can’t take fresh fruit to Uni because I can’t take it out of my zone!!!

  4. Cathy in NZ says:

oh, sorry you buildings seem to be taking on a shape – looking forward to see the framed stuff 🙂

bhb: oops no you don’t need some fire power at methinks,,,

  5. Jean says:

    Cathy,
No need to talk about our stuff here. I’m interested in what’s going on with you. And it seems to me that fruit fly they found is a big nuisance. Not being able to take fruit to the Uni is bad enough, but the thought of aerial spraying is worrisome.

  6. Rummuser says:

I have not written about it anywhere else. What is new
is that since the last fortnight, I am back under house arrest as the primary care giver for my father who is now immobile and needs to be provided with adult diapers every few hours. Since he is loath to take that service from paid care givers, I do it for him. Other than that and arranging for his medicines and medical consultations, my life is normal. All my friends visit or call me on the phone to keep in touch.

  7. Jean says:

    Rummuser,
Unfortunately it was bound to happen sooner or later. I assume you can still get out for an hour or so at a time, especially to the park in the evening. And it’s nice to know you can get help if you decide you need it, even if it means your father would need to do some adjusting.

Can he still use his new chair?

  8. bikehikebabe says:

If one does “Crunches” (a leg & head lift) you strengthen the abdomen & don’t pee in your pants–to put it bluntly. Not for your father, but to avoid the diaper age.

  9. Cathy in NZ says:

I inadvertently found a “bin” today – but only because I came back from the supermarket a slightly different way…it’s in the most ridiculous place imaginable right on a street where there is not one residential house…it will mean “remembering” sometime this week to trot down there with my “scraps” – which are going to multiple this coming week as I bought a bag of apples (CORES)

  10. Rummuser says:

    BHB you are awesome!

  11. bikehikebabe says:

Cathy, you might dig a hole in your back yard & put the scraps there. I did that but the coyotes dug it up.

  12. bikehikebabe says:

Rummuser, YOU are the awesome one. All those intellectual books you read in English, not your native language.

  13. Jean says:

    bikehikebabe,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I’ll probably be pushing up daisies long before I reach the age of Ramana’s father. 😀

I don’t do crunches but I do use the machine at the Y that strengthens the stomach muscles. I’m not supposed to lie flat on my back so I sleep on a wedge pillow and avoid certain exercises.

    Cathy,
Where do you keep the scraps between trips to the bin, in the refrigerator? It does sound like a nuisance, but at least you found the bin.

  14. Cathy in NZ says:

BHB: you are not allowed to compost any of the veg/fruit things…they have to be destroyed off site by whomever is running this programme

Jean: I have had email to say there “should be bins nearby” so far I haven’t looked in the other direction from my house and I certainly haven’t seen one up the other end. They sent me a map – appears there are quite a lot along Great North Rd as well but again I never saw them yesterday when I was out there…

The scraps are in my freezer but come tomorrow they are all going to the “yellow bin” hopefully one in my street otherwise go to the “bin” I spied – slight detour on way to Uni 🙂

  15. Jean says:

    Cathy,
I sure hope they put out bins that are closer to you. It does make sense to freeze the scraps until you have enough to make the trip worthwhile.
