Kitchen Cabinets

Dan is installing the kitchen cabinets now. He’s using a laser to insure the cabinets are aligned both horizontally and vertically:

The laser is in the bottom left of the picture, attached to the pole.

Horizontal red laser line.

After Dan finishes another fellow will come to make measurements for the counter top. Presumably that too will be installed in the fullness of time.

Is anything new with you?

Thanks to Evan, bikehikebabe, Cathy and Dixie for commenting on last week’s post.

New with me? ….I’ve been thinking quite a bit about the people we get to know a little bit through our online connections. A blogger I’ve been reading for almost 4 years shutdown her blog this week, probably as a result of terrible comments that were being left there by insensitive and mean people. (It has to do with a crime that her ex-husband very likely committed a couple of weeks ago.)

Mike, a four year exchange is a friendship, & when it shuts down, you’ve lost a friend.

What’s new with me is Jean’s house. I was thinking it was a cabin in the wilderness, but with the pictures, I see it’s definitely a beautiful house.

  3. Evan says:

Nothing significantly new for me this week.

  4. Cathy in NZ says:

Nothing here either that is in the “new item” – although nearly every week something gets created for art-wise. I’m in the process of creating a type of “door curtain” and have cut up a load of paper into leaf shapes which need to be painted.

But today was so nice and warm, and it’s going to be nasty weather again tomorrow – I went to the ITU races in Downtown Auckland. I really don’t understand the course, the lengths but it was still a nice feeling to see the sportspeople and the spectators everywhere…

    Mike,
I’m sorry she gave up. It seems to me just dumping the bad comments into the spam folder would eventually solve the problem. I understand why she would be upset and try to protect herself, but as it is she’s cheating her friends and letting the idiots win. Hopefully she still makes comments on other people’s blogs.

    bikehikebabe,
I called it a cabin because the floor plan was a modification of one I found in a book entitled Compact Cabins. I agree it is a lot more finished than cabins usually are. Probably the term cottage is more appropriate because it’s small and we won’t be living there full time.

    Evan,
Would you say you spend a lot of your time as a craftsman? If so I should probably ask if your week was soul-satisfying at all. I blog a lot about the house because it’s interesting to see it grow, but that’s not the most soul-satisfying part of my life.

    Cathy,
It sounds as if you had a mini-vacation. They’re my favorite kind. Also, it seems to me you’re always creating something new.

  6. Evan says:

No, at the moment my major investment is in caring. I don’t have the time to pursue a craft properly – even blogging

  7. Jean says:

    Evan,
    Good luck!

  8. Dixie says:

Your ‘cottage’ is amazing; all you need is an animal totem pole! So lovely and I am enjoying the posts.

What’s new? My right arm and hand have responded to electrical therapy. The last time this arm went ‘dead’ it took eight weeks to get any movement back. I’m very hopeful. Makes it difficult to write notes when I’m out in the field… so I’m using a tiny tape recorder! Once at home I can type out the notes and print them for my project book.

I hope all of you have a very good week. I love visiting here.

  9. Jean says:

    Dixie,
Thank you! I’m glad things are looking hopeful and that the tape recorder helps. Please keep us informed.

Renewing old friendships and relationships, long overdue, was what was new with me!
