Saner Fashions?

The prime minister of Bangladesh has ordered male government employees to stop wearing suits, jackets and ties to save electricity.
—BBC News

It’s good to read that a bit of sanity is starting to influence men’s fashions.

Yea, Rummuser for showing good sense and good taste. 🙂

Thanks to Grannymar, Evan, Rummuser, Cathy and Brighid for commenting on last week’s post.

My goodness, our Ramana is influencing the fashion for men over the border in another country!

Jean, you have not done justice to my current taste. That is just a lungi and a kurta! http://rummuser.com/?p=844

This incidentally is what most Bangladeshis wear throughout the year. It is the bureaucrats and businessmen who wear western garb. Nepal,Mayanmar,Pakistan,Bangladesh and India share many things in common and this is one among them.

Western fashion is monumentally stupid. I hope to never wear a suit and tie again.

It’s chinos and polos for me!

  4. Jean says:

    Grannymar,
Do you think his latest garb will catch on?

    Rummuser,
I thought of this picture when I wrote the post but didn’t know where to find it. Thanks for the link.

    Evan,
    Good for you!

    Rummuser,
I forgot to add I think your new fashion looks very comfortable indeed. And that the Prime Minister of Bangladesh says men no longer have to tuck in their shirts. You are indeed a great influence. 😉

Jean that gear is quite sensible for the extreme temperatures in India. No doubt it would not be very suitable for the wet and windy weather in Ireland.

    Grannymar,
Well put. Do you see any fashions in Ireland that don’t make sense? I keep thinking of women who wear very high heels and wreck their feet. I’m so tuned out I don’t even know what the latest fashions are. I wear comfortable shoes, slacks and tops and forget about it. When I find something I like I buy several so I don’t have to clothes shop for a long time. My guess is I’m an anomaly. 😉

    Jean,
Fashion is constantly evolving, yet there is nothing really new. I am now at the stage where I whisper… “I remember when that was round before”! Alas sometimes I have seen things twice before! 🙁

I was never a dedicated follower of fashion, but went more for classical styles that didn’t date quite so fast. I found my own style many years ago and more important the colours that give life to my ageing skin.

There were many times when Elly was in her teens and early twenties, that I had to hold my breath and bite my tongue as she expressed herself through her dress. Now she has passed through those stages and I quite like her style.

I took over all the kid’s closets with my clothes. I don’t get rid of clothes so they come back in style. I have beautiful well fitting clothes, but I only wear them for dress-up which is seldom. I like my baggy old everyday get-ups I wear. I’m at home or hiking & no one sees me.

My daughter was here from Sweden. She wore nice stuff everyday.

    Grannymar,
I tried the classic look and even that was disapproved of sometimes . It turns out some women believed in raising and lowering hemlines according to the dictate of supposed fashion gurus. I never did. It sounds as if you don’t either. Find a style that one likes and stick to it I say. 😉

    bikehikebabe,
I don’t have much closet space and mostly avoid affairs that require dressing up. For Kaitlin’s fancy wedding I bought a jacket that worked just fine.

    Rummuser,
I don’t know if you can. We will find out.

  13. Jean says:

Yes, that works. That’s a picture from your site. I’m having trouble putting down the HTML, though. It keeps getting interpreted.

  14. Grannymar says:

Jean – email the instructions and copy them to me please.

  15. Jean says:

I’m surprised that using the code instruction doesn’t keep it from being interpreted. I will e-mail the code to both of you.

  16. Grannymar says:

    Thanks muchly!
