The above cartoon reminds me of the saying
Everyone brings some joy in life, some when they come, others when they leave.
I find it encouraging that if we just get our egos out of the way it’s easy to help our fellow human beings. 😉
What do you think?
I think you’re right. Being open to others is usually all that’s required to help, just being with someone in this space can be profound.
I like to ‘be’ there for people, quietly in the background. It is my experience that the loud noisy bluffers of life, are more like the empty vessel making most noise! When the chips are really down, you can never find them.

An American friend of mine, seems to have finally found his vocation after decades of doing a number of things without getting his feet wet. He got a job as a salesman and has been beating all records at his employers. He wrote to me just yesterday that he found inspiration from a book called ‘The Power of Nice (How to conquer the world with kindness)’ by linda kaplan thaler;robin koval. He was so enthusiastic that I have ordered it online. He says that all that he learnt from the book is that all it takes to be a successful salesman is to be nice and kind to others! I shall let you know how the book turns out.

Evan,
In general I agree, but it also depends on the situation. Workplaces are often hierarchical and status-conscious environments. The fellow in the cartoon might very well be labeled as a “loser” and there’s a good chance he wouldn’t be experienced as a real person. That happens too often in this poor old world. I’m thinking in particular of the African Americans in the U.S. and Jews in Nazi Germany. And there are countless other examples throughout the world.
I’m sure you’re like me, you try to avoid environments like that if there’s nothing we can do to change them.
Grannymar,
I couldn’t agree more.
Rummuser,
Friendly salesmen who are honestly trying to help are the ones that get my money. Please let us know how the book turns out.
Cathy,
It sounds as if you’re more than ready for your well-earned vacation!
