Progress!

Greg and his crew started working on installing the solar panels yesterday and today. They won’t be able to come tomorrow, but will hopefully do more next week.

And even better news–the building inspector is planning to meet Andy at the Forest Service gate tomorrow morning. Presumably that means he will give the shed his blessing so we can finish the inside. We plan to get it insulated, install a heater, workbench, etc. so Andy has a place to keep warm and work on projects, or at least have a cozy place to have his lunch. 🙂

What about you? Any news to share?

Thanks to Mike, Beate, Evan, Cathy, bikehikebabe, Maria and Rummuser for commenting on last week’s post.

WHAT! Solar panels but NO house! At first I thought it was a TV antenna & no house. At least snow won’t interfere like it blocks cement work.

  2. Cathy in NZ says:

that is interesting progress…at first I thought that was a central pole for a house. It’s a common way to build houses here (in hilly places) put down huge poles into the ground and then place a level platform to build up from. Once you’ve staggered the poles to suit the contour you are home and hosed…so to speak.

    progress here:

another large item left my home, sold to someone who came and got it pronto

my courgettes are going mad out in the garden, I am now chatting with friends about how to use and giving some away to friends who will use them.

I read a whole lot more books on various subjects but still plenty on order from local interlibrary service…probably some waiting to be picked up.

my new minor craft space is taking shape (not weaving loom space) and that is looking good as the room with all the craft bits is looking less cluttered…a whole room downstairs (storage area) is looking “ordered”

Just read TIME magazine article on the BRAIN. One way to increase your IQ at any age is by reading, reading, reading.

well there you go…however, I’m not concerned with my IQ at this stage of my life, rather keeping my brain from forgetting it knows things 🙂

  5. bikehikebabe says:

Yes, exercise & READING–fast & a lot– are great for retaining long & short term memory.

  6. Evan says:

I’m impressed that you are making progress in this kind of weather.

    bikehikebabe,
Yes, the nice thing about the solar array is the concrete was poured for it before the cold weather.

What books have you been reading/listening to lately? Do you have any recommendations?

I agree that exercise is an important part of keeping our brains in shape. Basically if something is good for the cardiovascular system it’s good for the brain too.

    Cathy,
It sounds as if you’re still doing great things in your uncluttering. Interlibrary loans are a blessing, aren’t they?

    Evan,
We’ve been lucky. We had several storms the end of autumn/ first few days of official winter, but it’s been very mild since then.

  8. Rummuser says:

BHB, I keep reading and reading and reading but my brain just will not improve! Any suggestions?

Jean, lots happened during the last week. Just pop into my weekly Saturday post to get a flavour.

  9. bikehikebabe says:

Rummuser, your brain is already stuffed with information. There’s not room for anymore.

Jean, I don’t read books but go through a lot of audio books. I only hear the title once, but I’ll make a point to connect the title with the book.

  10. Cathy in NZ says:

Jean: this isn’t really a true interlibrary loan. Up until around a year or so ago each council within Auckland Region had it’s own library service and you couldn’t just go to another and take out a book, even if the branch was in the next suburb.

Then central gov’t came up with a plan to amalgamate all the little councils together and have a huge Super City called Auckland…many things came together including LIBRARIES and your card now can be used all over the place! Plus you can order a book from somewhere else – often quite ‘faraway’ as such…

Then the library service pages changed…everything in the catalogue loaded together and make it even better, RSS feed available to view all new books – link to the one you fancy and with your library number: request and also say which branch you want to pick it up from!!

    Rummuser,
I already read your post. I check for new ones almost every day. I especially like your Saturday recaps of the week/gratitude lists.

    bikehikebabe,
Don’t worry about the titles. I assume you mostly like fiction? What kind of stories do you like?

    Cathy,
Here it often takes a long time to get an interlibrary loan book, but the books can come from all over the U.S. I’m for any system that make books easier to get. 🙂

You can sit under those solar panels & keep warm.
