Last Thursday the cabin looked like this:
It was essentially a box with the start of some external columns. But now that they’re putting the rafters up it’s starting to look more like a house:
A house that will be seen for miles away because all the trees have burned down. (Notice that the grass and some bushes are starting to come back.)
If you’re interested there are a lot more pictures on Flickr.
Still so incredibly breath-taking!
Going great guns afire!
now that doesn’t look like a box – roofing outline makes it all better 🙂
as for the forest – of burn sticks, some quite large sticks vs the greenery at the lower level – amazing…
since the flurry of activity here with house maintenance, it has gone quiet again but I guess sometime next week the “brothers will return” because at the end of that week, big brother goes back to India…
Dixie,
The view from our second story deck in the old house was spectacular, but this little cabin touches my heart.
bikehikebabe,
It is fun to watch. 🙂
Cathy,
I’m glad big brother wants to get the repairs done before he leaves. I hope they get the most important things finished. Why is he live in India? Is he from there?
My principal landlord up until a few years ago had a couple of businesses and of course his rental houses in Auckland. When he sold his principal business to a “cousin” he was freed up to do other things and has returned to India (semi-permanent) to “give back to the community (not sure why/how)” and his wife and daughter live here…
When he is not here, we have his daughter to look after things…but she really doesn’t want to. She works fulltime and only deals with things that are urgent.
Up until he went to India, his wife never could “speak English with me on the phone” but now we have quite good chats if necessary 🙂
It must be very satisfying to see it all come up so quickly. It is however sad to see the trees like that.
Cathy,
Thanks!
Rummuser,
Yes, it’s best not to think of the trees.
