Moving On

The refrigerator still keeps shutting itself off, so Peter will come up to adjust it when he finishes his current job. The sink is gradually getting better by itself, so probably nothing will have to be done on that—saving the mess of figuring out who’s responsible and how it could be fixed. A couple of minor things on the outside need to be finished next spring, but the cottage is essentially finished and we can move on.

We’re now ordering, and Andy is assembling, bookcases for the attic:

And we’re starting to fix up my study so I can use it when I visit:

As you can see I have my standing desk and a trampoline for working, and with the airbed there isn’t room for much else. The bed is an experiment. The original idea was to use it rarely—to usually leave it deflated to make more space in the room. But given my crazy sleep schedule/circadian rhythm it became clear I will need a nap if I go up there for the day. It pays to be flexible.

Anyway, fixing up the inside of the cottage to suit our needs will be an ongoing project. And I love being able to work at our own pace again.

What about you? Are you usually free to work at your own pace or does the outside world intrude?

If you had not mentioned it, I would have wondered about the trampoline and your earlier post about how you like to work standing up. Rather peculiar arrangement that!

No, I am pretty much free to do what I want to do or not except some friendship responsibilities where the other party is ill. In fact I am so free that I amaze myself with some of the things that I am able to do, including just lazing around.

Did that trampoline come with the hold-on-to bar? My trampoline is bigger so it’s not the same, but I need some reference to know where I am. I watch TV in the eve & get so engrossed I come close to stepping off-YIKES!

Well I mostly have freedom to work at my own pace…but on saying that sometimes I would prefer to have someone “looking over my calendar & telling me that the deadline is…”

There are occasions when more then one thing is “on/event” – each December I get into a quandary with a Xmas Party for my craft arenas are on the same day! I never can made up my mind, I often email someone to “recheck” if the dates are right!

One of the reasons is that most groups close down by the end of the 2nd week in December because it’s Summertime here and we love to take a long break from craft meetings! So if some group usually meets after the 2nd week…everything gets moved forward. One of my group has it’s finally meeting on the 3rd weekend of November!!!

My current study is extremely flexible; no real deadlines or even marking system which in a way is quite difficult. The project “hands” is all over the place and right on the back burner. Whereas, the design and drawing/collaging is surging forward.

But hey, it’s all such fun, fun, and more fun and what else would I be doing with my time 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Rummuser,
My guess is lazing around is the best use of your time right now. You’ve been through a lot and need recovery time.

    bikehikebabe,
Yes, the bar did come with it. I may take it down if it obstructs the view, but I thought I would try it out. Here’s the link to it on amazon if you want more details.

    Cathy,
I am so happy for you! It’s nice to have a choice of fun things to work on.

Wanted: a design for bookcases that divide into smaller sections which can be sealed up with the books in them to make moving easy.

There must be a design out there somewhere surely.

If anyone knows of one let me know. Someone around here has lots of books – so far he finds wine boxes are the best moving option for them. (Easy size to shift, not too many books fit so not too heavy.)

  6. Jean says:

    Evan,
We’re not very strong, so for us the sections would have to be too small to be useful. As you mention, books are heavy and one needs to use fairly small boxes.

The bookcases in the pictures cost about $90 each. They’re fancy looking but aren’t very strong. We’re not sure they would survive a move.
