New Strategy

This is what the road over the four-foot-diameter culvert looked like when Orlando and Ron finished Sunday afternoon:

And this is the picture Beate sent Monday morning:

It could be worse. The road is still passable. If we had infinite amounts of money we would try again this weekend. But as it is we have a new strategy: keeping our fingers crossed. (We’ll try again after the rainy season stops.)

Have you ever adopted “keeping your fingers crossed” as a strategy? How did it work out?

Thanks to Evan, Mike, tammy, Cathy, bikehikebabe, Rummuser and Ursula for commenting on last week’s post.

My fingers are permanently kept crossed. I know that good things will happen. Sometimes later, but most often sooner.

Keeping your fingers crossed is to “try something different when it’s not working”. You taught me that. It seems so obvious, but we are creatures of habit & don’t see the forest for the trees. I’m speaking from experience.

  3. Ursula says:

Sorry about that, Jean. Sometimes we just have to gnash our teeth and, as you say, wait till the time is right. Which, on occasion, takes the patience of a saint.

Do I cross my fingers? I tend to “touch wood” (mainly my head) when I make a wish. Just in case.

    So, fingers crossed,
    U

I tend to adopt a ‘we’ll try it and see what happens’ approach. Which is pretty much the same I suppose.

  5. Jean says:

    Rummuser,
Yes, it’s worked out well for you.

    bikehikebabe,
We’ll just have to see what happens to the road while we wait. Andy says it was raining hard when he left today — he’ll take more pictures tomorrow.

    Ursula,
I’m afraid my poor teeth couldn’t survive much gnashing. I’m trying to stay curious instead.

    Evan,
I suppose “keeping our fingers crossed” implies caring about the result?

  6. Evan says:

    Yes, I think so

this somehow puts me in mind of that old 1950’s i believe… movie named ‘the elephant walk.’ it starred elizabeth taylor at the height of her beauty.
her husband’s father had built his mansion right in the way of the ‘walk’ the elephants took to get to their drinking water.
in the end… the elephants and mother nature won. the heavy rains came. they decided to walk through the house and recapture their walk.
i’m wondering if the elephants and mother nature are just against you!!! 🙂

  8. Jean says:

    tammy,
I’m afraid mother nature doesn’t care about individuals one way or another. It’s going to do what it’s going to do. It’s up to us to adjust. 🙂

I love pretty scenery and cute animals, but I do not love nature. Too much pain and killing. 🙁

tammy I remember liz taylor & that movie (the elephant walk) but not the whole gist of the movie. thanks for the reminder.
