If you don’t like traffic jams, don’t try to climb Mt. Everest. It’s much easier to climb now than it was years ago, which means hordes of people are doing it. It’s still dangerous —some people still die trying — but a lot more make it. So much for it being lonely at the top.

I somehow missed this post. How sobering! I had no idea.
Yes, it blows me away, too!
Don & Alice Liska, world mountain climbers from here, climbed Mt. Everest 40 some years ago when there was nobody there.
It was more like 50 yrs. ago. Don is 85 now.
What a difference 40 or 50 years makes! They were lucky to have lived in the right time.
We met them several years after we were here, when they moved here—at
International Folkdance. They were the BEST. I stood behind Don to learn the steps. They stayed in our house for several weeks when their house was being built. Had no kids. They willed a bunch of $$ to their 2 cats in case something happened to them. (I hope this is of interest to someone besides me. 🙂 )
It’s interesting to me because Don was in the same division I was. I interacted with him a few times. He was one impressive athlete.
