these are GREAT!
our campaigns go on ridiculously long.
the two senators touring now … one republican one democrat … that have written a book about all the ills of it even agree. WAYYYY too long.
when you think of the millions upon millions spent on getting these people simply re-elected…
and what that money could REALLY be used for… if they’re so eager to give it away…
true humanitarian needs. or heck. even the infrastructure! the mind just boggles.
not having a “groundhog” day here, I too have no way to respond – other than to say…maybe if your continent was a series of countries rather than one country with a series so states – it might work better. Yes I know you have Canada and Sth American countries but overall you have the bulk of the land mass…
The area of the U.S. is only three times that of India, but India has about four times the population. I’m guessing that extra population makes things messy too.
I have no idea what a ground hog is – and NO, we don’t have them here…i remember one of my earlier american friends explaining that if they came out at a certain time of year – weather was predicted for the next season…
The length of the presidential campaigns in the US is mind-boggling. Everyone must be totally exhausted by the time they finish. An election has just been called in the Republic of Ireland, to be held on February 26. British election campaigns are about the same length. And even that’s pretty wearisome after three weeks of saturation election coverage in the media!
They need at least that amount of time so that they can dig up every little thing that they possibly can and then twist and spin it.
I hate the whole thing.
Be done already!
I think we basically follow the British system…last time around, we got into some very “dirty politics” – via a foreigner or two, a book and probably even some other strange happenings. Most of the people/parties thinking they would win didn’t, and some parties disappeared all together. It seemed to to on and on but nothing like your timeframe.

I agree!
I don’t know how to respond. So, I too will simply say Happy Groundhogs day to you.
How long do your campaigns last? It must be different than our two-party system with the presidents being elected directly by the public.
Great cartoons! Iowa was a hoot, and now we go on to goodness knows how many more hoops! As the middle guy says, wish it was only six more weeks!
It certainly is different than most presidential elections. We will just have to see.

I suppose you don’t even have groundhogs?

Our campaigns normally last up to six weeks and close two days before the actual polling takes place.
That’s a lot better than here.

That’s so much better than here. And I’ll bet your elections don’t cost nearly as much as ours.

Lots of luck with that one! Too much money and power involved.
