Why Would They Want Us?

The star closest to the sun hosts a planet that may be very much like Earth, a new study reports.
Found! Potentially Earth-Like Planet at Proxima Centauri Is Closest Ever

It’s 4.22 light-years away, so it’s unlikely it will be visited in our lifetimes. But cartoonists have been having fun with the idea.

The last cartoon raises an interesting question. If there is supposedly intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, how do we know it’s not any less messed up than we are? And if it’s not, why would they want us?

Not to worry CM, none of us are likely to be around to find out for sure.

we could send trump and hilary to that planet and let them duke it out.
I think the aliens are smarter than we are… or else they would have landed long ago and let us know whom they are.
notice I actually used the word whom? 😀 it always sounds wrong.
    great cartoons monk!

Oh, my god, Jean. Now you have opened a can of (live) worms. Which is better than if they were dead.

The mind boggles. Indeed, who would want us? We’d have to start at the beginning, explaining it all. Socrates, Einstein, you and me. No doubt they’d have their own pokers to be pulled.

In my worst nightmares I think of us being some sort of experiment under the microscope. Who is looking down at us through the magnifier, making notes? Not that it’d make any difference. Sometimes I wish I were an ant. At least they have a purpose.

    Off to the hills, screaming,
    U

WoW – space science is just amazing – even though I don’t really understand it…

All sorts of exciting things are going on. Thanks to the internet we don’t have to understand that much to get a general idea of them. 🙂

  5. Let’s promise to settle down after this election is over..calm should be restored. Unless, of course, the candidate we hate most wins!

    • Jean says:

Settle down? It sounds as if you’re taking this election more seriously than I am. It will be what it will be. Not worth a lot of my time.

I’m always surprised when people act like the thought of life on another planet is too bizarre to think about.
I think it seems much more possible than what some people believe as far as some religions go.
But what if they aren’t behind us in development but also not overly advanced.
What if they just make it here first? Would we welcome them? Learn from them?
    Share information and work together?
I doubt it. I bet there would be another war.
Seems like every movie ever made about the possibility, has them coming here to take over.
So I don’t think anyone would trust them.
    Yep.
It would be the coolest thing ever
    and the scariest.
