Centered, Creative, and Constructive

That’s the mantra that has been going through my head the past few days when I need more than Washington-inspired jokes to keep my spirits up. The mantra is a short cut for the first few lines in my personal guide, a.k.a. The Traits of Stress-Hardy, Resilient People:

They have a sense of meaning, direction, and purpose. They are value-centered rather than reactive and defensive. They understand that emotions are great sources of energy and motivation but are often poor guides for action. Instead these people use their values as guides.

They realize that the quality of our lives depends on how we focus our energy and our attention.

It helps a lot. Obviously the ideal would be to use that energy to do something to make this world a slightly better place, but if not that, at least there is always lifelong learning:

Stay curious and open to life. No matter what happens keep learning and growing. Find what you love and find a way to share it with other people.

It works for me. What works for you?

I don’t know whether it could be called a mantra or not.
but I always come back to abe lincoln’s words… and given that he lived in such tumultuous times with the war and his own personal losses… it means even more to me. and it never fails me.
“people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

yep, those commentators all have wonderful ways to live by…

and certainly it is best to have a value that “you” personally live by – even if others can’t understand “why you do?”

I loved living in an RV and traveling around the country. Now I share tips in an RV forum with people just starting out. I get good feedback on my ideas which my doctor says makes me feel validated. I know it makes me feel valued.
