Running the Government Like a Business

This was Jimmy Kimmel’s reaction to the United Airlines fiasco:

Trump says he wants to clean up the inefficiencies in the government and start running it like a business. I worry this is the kind of business he has in mind.

The good news is United Airlines may be in deep trouble in China because the fellow dragged off was of Chinese descent, and there has been an uproar there about the incident. United has been trying to build up customer loyalty there, so this may badly hurt the company. And, of course, there has been a huge outrage here in the U.S. too. Maybe Kimmel is wrong, maybe there could be a boycott.

The difference between governments and businesses is that with businesses the customers sometimes have a choice.

That’s too bad. He ended with a fake cartoon for United Airlines. The gal was smiling but was essentially saying FU, customers.

I think he’s originally Vietnamese. The solution to overbooking is not forcibly dragging someone off a plane but offering passengers a worthwhile deal to get them on a different flight. Or not overbooking so heavily in the first place.

If it was that important to get their employees to their next location they needed to offer greater incentives for those who would give up their seats. And do it BEFORE loading the plane. Just because their documents say they have the right to remove you from the plane does not mean they should do so. Any person who paid for a ticket should have a right to board. Passengers have schedules to meet, too. They removed a doctor for the convenience of their own flight staff. That’s just wrong.

before I say anything on this matter – the bottom of your post where you have your date reads: “April 17, 2017” now that might be okay if we were on that date already but here in NZ we are still @ April 13, 2017…

as to this matter, it is still rife on our International newscasts – sadly for United Airlines this is the modern world and life doesn’t stand still or get shut in a closet easily…

our local news is more fraught with details as “maybe and could” at added to the tail end of Cyclone Cook…arriving some time soon. But also we have a regular rain storm anyway – so it’s confusing.

Here at home on the ranch it’s just dull and grey looking, not a lot of rain (certainly not like more recent weather problems) and my shed “water-leak collectors” (buckets] show that the rain is coming in a different direction – all are empty.

Good catch. Yes, I noticed that typo about the date, but I told the tech at MailChimp I wouldn’t change this post after I scheduled it so she could try to figure out why MC isn’t working all the time. I’ll correct the mistake at some future time.

      Good luck with your weather!
