Puzzles

Rummuser does several crossword puzzles a day, as I recall. I’ve never gotten into them, but I do play Sudoku, sometimes FreeCell, and the past week or so a lot of Word Jumbles.

They’re good mental exercise, and I sometimes burst out laughing at the puns. For instance, the one above.

Do you ever do puzzles?

  1. I do love to do puzzles and you’re right about them keeping a mind sharp. I think I need to do them a bit more than I do, because the one above took me a little longer than I’ll admit to figure out. 🙂

If you figured it out you are doing fine. It’s easier with the app because you can have it scramble the letters for you, which sometimes helps. And you can buy hints with points you have accumulated or bought. Some of the puzzles are harder than this one because they have more letters, but many are a lot easier.

I love doing sudoku, usually while I’m listening to music so I can have two pleasures at once! I do the quick crossword in the Guardian regularly, but that’s about it. My father used to do the cryptic crosswords, but they’re completely beyond me.

I think of that as a mini vacation. As I recall, you are planning to retire soon, so you can do that even more often if you want.

I continue solving five crossword puzzles every day. That is after I have read all the five newspapers that carry them. I do this because I am kind of a distributor of news for a few friends. Whatever is of interest to them, I send by email or whatsapp. All of them are otherwise involved in businesses. That takes almost the whole morning for me.

    I play here regularly

(snoot also has other games, but I don’t play them much…)

when you’ve got the hang of it – there are “expert” games – let me know….

It’s a bit like scrabble but you have 10 letters to play with; no blanks; you usually can’t play more than once at time – depends on your connection. You can play anoymously or you will see exactly who I am. There are many who don’t co-operate – not sure if they are stupid or just playing funny buggers…I rarely comment on that now! There are short hand words we use in the chat, like “ns” nice start “vn” very nice, I use wow and wow nice…

some words don’t seem to be in Tom’s dictionary, I would love to have “qi” – sometimes the games lock up when we run out words, there are button for various functions…

if you want some help with natty words: Curtis has a great add-on:

    (going there now…)

That sounds like a fun game when you’re in the mood for some interaction. Mostly I like games on my iPad that I can do as much or little as I like at a time, then put it down for later.

oh there is no rush with my games…some times they go on for days, when you can’t place a word…there used to be oodles of people playing it – and then it started slowing…but some the old regulars reappear from time to time…
