No Comparisions, No Envy

I’m too busy working on my own grass to worry if yours is greener.

At my age I would say “enjoying” instead of “working on”, but I love the sentiment.

Still, the quote I rely on the most is,

The quality of our lives depends on how we focus our energy and our attention.

What works for you?

  1. From Eva, I’ve decided that I really need to work on staying focused on and stay in the moment, and what I can control, and to try not to worry (too much) about what’s ahead, and what I have no control over. It’s really hard for me, and I need lots of practice, practice, practice…

I know, it’s so hard. Eva was such a sweetheart, and you have to face this time and time again. But you are doing so much to bring these pups some wonderful moments in the time they have remaining.

Here Andy is 83, I’m 78, and we’re both aware that when something happens to one of us the other will be left with a big hole in their life. He’s been having some health problems and has been feeling sick the past couple of weeks, but he’s still going up to the land and working. All any of us can do is to make the most of the time we still have rather than worrying about the future.

As usual, bless you so much for all you do for the pups.

wise words from both you and Kim.
I am reeling from a day of loss. first the beautiful Eva at Golden Pines… whose smile stayed with her to the end. so gentle and sweet and loving all her family there even as short as her time with them was. love and gratitude.
and then tonight just finding out about Sadie at Season to Season.
she couldn’t walk and was in great pain. but her little spirit kept on. then they found out today she had become blind also. such courage! but it was time.
these beautiful dogs all just touch my heart in so many ways. THEY are the ones who teach me. they do.

I hadn’t seen Season to Season before but went to read about Sadie. Eva touched my heart too, and then there’s Qannik and Kiska at The Thundering Herd, and now R going blind at Romping and Rolling in the Rockies. Mourning is the price we pay for loving them.

Happiness is what we make of it.

As trite as it sounds, “Sitting quietly, doing nothing, the river flows and the grass grows by itself.”

I might think the grass on the other side is greener, but then when I reflect on all the good things in my life and the fact that green grass can hide plenty of slugs, I realise I’m fine just as I am.
