All a Bunch of Nuts

Dilbert: Is it my imagination or are my co-workers getting dumber every day?

Catbert: They aren’t getting dumber. You’re just getting to know them better. It looks the same.

As many of you know, I think in spite of our pretensions we’re all a bunch of nuts. It’s best to have a sense of humor and a lot of compassion.

Here’s a sad example:

Update: He will be on probation for 5 years and will have to pay a total of $220,000. “Dickey will immediately borrow $100,000 from his retirement fund to make a payment when he is sentenced Oct. 9, and will pay monthly installments of at least $500 for 20 years, for a total of $220,000….” He will also make a public service announcement about fire safety for the Forest Service.

I have always wondered when normal people (ie NOT celebrities or otherwise wealthy people) are charged or fined … how they are able to actually PAY one MILLION, one hundred eighty eight thousand, 69 dollars??? who would even give him a loan for that amount? so… he pays… WHAT?
he’s very lucky that no one died in what he started. other than the poor wild life that lost home and life. I’m trying to feel sympathy for him. but it’s hard.
and usually I can manage compassion because I admit to being a fellow nut.
but he’s from a drought/dry area! that alone tells you to be cautious! no?
    it SHOULD!

I’ve always liked one of my mother’s favorite quips: “Everybody’s a bit crazy but me and thee, and sometimes I wonder about thee.”

I am in total agreement. Let us just laugh at all our heroes and zeroes.

Let us laugh at ourselves and have compassion for others is my take on it. Well, sort of, I do watch Seth Myers and sometimes Stephen Colbert.

…wish I could find a lesson, or at least some meaning in that!

  6. well the update on monetary matters will certainly put a dent anything else he wants to do in the future, like take a trip during retirement or redecorate his house, maybe even move somewhere else…a “tough lesson” for sure…

    • Jean says:

The sad thing is he was celebrating his yet-to-be-born child. Now his wife and child will suffer with him. That’s a lot of money and a huge weight on him.

I just read the update. it takes me awhile but … I do feel sorry for him. $500 for 20 years on his salary will definitely be a hardship. plus he has borrowed $100,000 from his retirement fund! plus the humiliation of the world knowing what he accidentally did. it may cause a strain on his marriage. and the baby isn’t even here yet! when you see it spelled out like that and think how it affects his life from now on… yes. compassion for that young couple is the only feeling to have. I wish them luck. and compassion and patience with one another! thanks Monk.
