I wrote about this in 2009:
One of our magazines had the following puzzle: Remove eight letters from the following to reveal a common garden crop.
Okay, there are 20 letters there. So there would be 12 left after we remove 8. But what common garden crop has 12 letters? I couldn’t for the life of me think of one. I had to wait for the next issue to learn the answer.
To see the eight letters that need to be removed and the garden crop, click here.
They got me on that one!

that’s a stumper for sure…love the “answer”
Yes, the answer is clever. I laughed when I read it, especially because I wasn’t smart enough to figure it out for myself.
if I’m right it’s one of my favorites.
especially in a sandwich with just miracle whip.
don’t want to write it here and possibly spoil it for someone.
and then I could easily be wrong!!! LOL! but I don’t think so!
fun. and I normally don’t like that kind of thing.
now I’m hungry.
You are smarter than I am!
Mom got it right away. We think she did because we didn’t look at the answer yet. But she just loves these word games:) Now we are going to let her see if she is right.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
Your mom is a lot smarter than I am! I’m almost always fooled by questions like that. A few weeks ago I saw the question “How many months have 28 days?” Yep, I wasn’t smart enough to notice it didn’t say, How many months have only 28 days. 😀
Mom got it right away. She loves all sorts of word games. We haven’t checked to be sure yet, but we think she figured it out. We won’t say here so as not to spoil it for others.

I got that one right away. I think. I haven’t looked at the answer yet but I’m fairly confident. I don’t always get these, though.
I’m sure you got it correctly. Just click the link if you want to check. The main thing was to avoid the mistake I made. 🙂
I got it immediately but I think it’s because my eye was instantly drawn to the “t”‘s
🙂
Good for you! I was completely gullible and fell for it. 🙂
