Amusing Ourselves

It took Andy about two hours to walk from the fire station to the house and about an hour and a half back. He used snowshoes a little over half the trip. He will decide tomorrow whether he should rest a bit before doing it again so soon.

The house was toasty warm — 86°F — so the solar heating panels were working just fine.

Among other things I used our popcorn popper without exceeding our 20-amp limit. The new circuit box was supposed to come Friday afternoon, and with any luck they will install it Monday. But we will have to see.

The popper takes 10 amps for a couple of minutes and almost everything else except the refrigerator was off. For curiousity I tried to find the maximum load for our model, but the only site I could find that would have the information was energystar.gov. When I went there I saw this message:

*Important Notice*

The federal government is closed due to a lack of appropriations.

Another victim of the shutdown.

So I shut the refrigerator off for the couple of minutes I popped the corn. I am becoming more knowledgeable about how much current our various devices need.

We do manage to keep ourselves amused.

That’s what it is like living in an RV that’s not plugged in at a park: thinking about your energy draw for each item used. My biggest challenge was remembering to charge my electronics early in the day so my system had time to build up again before sunset.

That’s one of those things we tend to take for granted and just plug things in and turn them on without ever thinking about it. I would probably be lost if I had to stop and figure out what all I had running.a

We’re being super conservative so we don’t have to think too much! I suggested to Andy we look but he said the problem should be over soon and it’s not worth the trouble. We’re not suffering so I didn’t press the matter, or take the time to do it all by myself. šŸ™‚

Nothing like a bowl of fresh popcorn to keep you amused:)

Hope things DO get back to normal tomorrow for you.

I love that you take everything with a grain of salt.
Iā€™m working on trying to do the same.
