Trip to Cochiti Mesa

As I said, it was a spectacular day for a ride. The snapshots don’t do the scenery justice, but they give you the idea.

The middle picture is a distant view of our house and shed. Here is an expanded view:

For more pictures see the flickr album 1-19-19 Trip to Cochiti Mesa.

I’ll write more about the roads tomorrow.

  1. some of the photos at flickr have what appears a whole lot less dumped snow…looks cold but semi inviting

Yes, the snow causing problems on the roads wasn’t just from the newly fallen snow. It was caused by winds blowing the snow over the piles of snow at the sides of the road from previous plowing. The piles create turbulence and the wind drops the snow in the roadway, filling it up. Not exactly what we would like!

      Thanks for noticing!

What a beautiful view. I can imagine how peaceful it must be out there. You certainly don’t have to worry about nosey neighbors where you are…lol

    • Jean says:

Actually we do have neighbors up there The ones who come in the summer are dear friends who watch out for Andy. When he had stroke-like symptoms last July they came down to the emergency room with him. He checked their place with binoculars today to make sure it was still all right — he’ll walk down and look more closely after things settle down/the snow melts.

Before the fire (2011) a couple who lived year round on the road we take to go in told him they checked for his tracks every evening when they got home from work and were happy to see them and know that he was all right. They didn’t rebuild after the fire.

wow. the pictures of Flickr are wonderful. but such devastation. one can only imagine now how beautiful it was when all those dead trees as far as the eye could see were alive and green. you can really see the lay of the land now. all the hills and valleys. when it’s snow covered it looks like mounds of dirty whipped cream! I wondered what you did when the ‘road grader’ was coming. it didn’t look room enough to pass! and the pics of Andy walking right out of camera range to the left! those are so beautiful! clean white snow and green pine!

    • Jean says:

Here’s a link of pictures taken from the same road as Andy was fleeing the fire (June, 2011). Yes, it was beautiful.

The flames you can see in the fourth and fifth pictures are of our land going up in smoke.
