Pulse-Quickening?

They say stress is a killer. But I think no stress is
equally deadly, especially as you get older. If your days
just seem to slip by without any highs and lows, without
some anxieties and pulse-quickening occurrences,
you may not be really living.
— Actress Helen Hayes

I’m sure these wingsuit flyers jumping off a mountain to land in a plane would agree with that quote, but I cheerfully admit, it’s not for me. I have my challenges, but they aren’t nearly as pulse-quickening. What about you?

    Maybe I shouldn’t comment on this but…
I doubt wingsuit flyers are actually stressed.
I think they are adrenaline junkies and they thrive on it.
And it’s their choice to do it so… I guess it’s maybe self induced stress.
And, I suppose that living an uneventful life, with nothing to raise a person’s BP, probably isn’t great but…. wow, what would that be like?
I’m kinda worried about stress right now, to be really honest.
Things are happening at my job, that I have no control over. Bad things.
And there’s the fact that I’m suddenly feeling like my body can’t do what it used to be able to do and…
I haven’t really gotten over the loss of my beloved cat when one of my little dogs dropped over dead on Sunday…
So yeah, I’m about at my stress level limit and jumping off a mountain sounds like a cake walk to me right about now.

I’m so sorry about your losing your pets. That’s heartbreaking.

The wingsuit flyers do have a lot of stress, but it’s the healthy kind. Helen Hayes understands — some stress is good for us. That’s what optimizing stress is all about. Your stress is obviously the kind that wrecks our health. Just before the new year you said you weren’t going to continue doing what you’re doing because you thought it was damaging your health, but you didn’t yet know what it would be. You mentioned making a vision board, have any ideas come to you?

Our hearts go out to you, and fingers crossed you can figure out alternatives to your present job situation. Please let us know how it goes.

  2. oh Cindi, you have made my own heart sad, with your stress and the loss of another pet…take care

yes I agree adrenaline junkies are sure fire way to have fun…I have a friend who says he is in “grind” mode, he is on a high; daily at the gym – working out. Something he has often done, but for some reason a year or so back, went into a new mode of “grind” which included basically a whole lifestyle change

I do get pulse quickening from time to time – but in recent years I have changed the way I do things – so that things that stress me, I analyse and then make different moves…if possible. This whole saga with the health scare which is now not – really moved me to sort up and so forth – all kinds of sort-up.

Now, I’m back to “in the flow” even when naysayers have been talking through respective holes in their heads on my “journey” which is now 2 sleeps away…

It sounds like you’re dong a great job getting rid of the harmful stress and focusing on the good kind. Traveling counts, we don’t all have to jump off mountains. 😀

I can do without stress in my life. The older I get the more I crave peace and quiet

I think you already have enough stress — you are going through a lot. If anything, I’m guessing you could use more rest and joy, and for spring to come!
