We were emailed a wind advisory from our county emergency management department yesterday warning us to “avoid parking, walking and driving near large trees and power lines.” We were supposed to avoid non-emergency calls to the police department, but to report emergencies.
We didn’t get the notice until after the winds had died down because the wind had taken out our power for a couple of hours.
Andy was hoping to drive up to the mountains today to start clearing trees off the roads we use to drive to the house, but we received a notice last night saying the wind had blown down between 40 to 100 trees across the highway so it would be closed until further notice. It was too dangerous to work on the road yesterday except to rescue stranded drivers. There were wind gusts up to 75 miles per hour.
Here’s a picture of a snow plow:
And here are pictures of two fallen trees:
Hurray! It’s now 3:49 pm Thursday and we just received notice that they cleared the highway and opened it. So Andy will no doubt go up tomorrow to see how many trees need to be cleared from the dirt roads to our place.
We’re guessing there might be more than one.

oh my! will be thinking of him. SAFETY FIRST!
I’m so glad he has that tracking app you use. money well spent.
Yes, that Garmin is priceless. And Andy does try to be sensible.
That’s a lot of trees to come down. We still have that strong wind here tonight. Luckily no damage for us. Tell Andy to be careful.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
He will take care. I’m glad you didn’t suffer any damages — the worst of the wind seems to be over here. Fingers crossed for everyone.
Wow, glad you were safely inside.
Thank you. Me too!
The winds out your way were scary! Glad you were safely tucked away inside.
Thank you! It’s sad that so many living trees blew down, but apparently no humans were hurt.
We’re rattling beads and chanting with drums, encouraging weather goddesses and gods to stop harassing you. And start giving you the warm, sunny spring weather you deserve. Let us know if that helps. 🙂
I see on google that Los Alamos gets an average of 4 inches of snow in April. Hmmm.
Hopefully everything will be back to normal by the time you get here. 😀
Wow that’s a lot of weather
