I’ve been watching some Boston Dynamics demonstration videos about their robots.
I can see that they could be useful in a factory, but I would have nightmares if I had this one in my house!
I’ll stick to my Roomba.

it would be strange to have one of have those around the place
I wouldn’t pick one of these!
They are pretty fascinating and amazing what they can do but in a way a little creepy too. Mabye because I’ve seen things in movies about robots taking over….lol
These do look creepy, but a lot of the ones they are building for personal use look a lot friendlier — which is very important.
cool! would like to know more about the controls. like the ones picking up boxes and placing on the pallet or conveyer belt. I suppose they’re programed but seems it would be complicated. they’re amazing! and like we think… a little… no… a LOT creepy! š no thank you!
maybe we’re getting ready to have them live on Mars… and tend the robot gardens! lol wonder what they eat.
From what I’ve read they do need humans working with them, but I don’t know the details.
They are fascinating… I’m concerned about the impact robots and automation will — and in many workplaces are — having on human employability. Proponents will say that automation will free humans to do other work, but many may not be able to readily transition to a new type of work. Perhaps, eventually and by necessity, it will lead to a Universal Basic Income.
We’ll just have to see. All sorts of big changes are coming.
crazy, weird and darn right scary – and as tammy asked “what do you feed them” gallons of oil/lubrication or ???
and if it’s a fossil fuel, how does that sit with the “climate change” protesters…having just had the occasion to be caught up i.e. they blocked off a road where my bus was due…and then being told by another bystander it was all my “generations fault” that we had this problem…
trying to tell her different, she flounced off – deciding that my attempts are anything was wrong – nevermind the fact we didn’t even have some of these modern “fuel guzzlers” in the first place!
oops sorry got off topic…
I’m sure the robots run on batteries.
That’s interesting, and disturbing, that you were blamed! I wonder how they will handle it now that they are supposed to be in charge. For the most part it’s their responsibility now, and just blaming others won’t cut it.
Really fascinating…the ‘future’ is closer than we think! I agree with Mike that there are serious implications for workers. Maybe I don’t want to be around for 20 more years!
I think it’s unlikely I will be around that long, and I bless my stars that I was born when I was. š
Iām not ready for one of these robots yet. Roomba would be nice if I had hardwood floors.
I have carpets and the Roomba helps a lot.
