It Works!

Dycem® is a non-slip, rubber-like plastic material used to stabilize surfaces. Reusable. Cut to most any size or shape with scissors. Cleans with soap and water.

When AE and Eric came they gave us some smoked salmon and a roll of Dycem® as presents. The Dycem® does work when I open jars of applesauce. With a piece of Dycem® to help my grip on the lid I needed to whack the lid only once to break the seal. With a piece on the lid and one wrapped around the side to increase my grip there, I didn’t need to whack the lid at all.

Thanks, AE and Eric!

We don’t think Mom knows about this product, but we bet it would come in very handy for her and Dad.

  2. I’ve got some that as well, which I use at times to stop something sliding – never thought of it for unscrewing something…particularly since I had to give up on a few food items…

thanks! I didn’t know about it either. and the jars with new lid types have been getting particularly difficult sometimes. so this might be the answer. 😀

I’ve never heard of that. I’ll have to look for it

I think that’s what we use in the bathroom on slippery surfaces–one piece under a rug and another piece in the shower.

I have a square piece of fabric that I got from a health store. Seems to work the same way—opening bottles suddenly became possible!
