Finally Learning to Read

These South Korean grandmothers are learning how to read!

And they take the bus with the rest of the students.

According to the article Running Out of Children, a South Korea School Enrolls Illiterate Grandmothers, the birthrate in South Korea has been plummeting and rural areas, in particular, have a shortage of children because younger couples tend to migrate to the cities. That means rural schools are having a hard time keeping open. This one school is solving the problem by opening their doors to illiterate older women who have always dreamed of being able to read. It’s a win-win situation and it brought tears to my eyes.

They are. As the article says, they’re probably the only students asking for more homework. They never dreamed they would ever be able to do this.
