A Pleasant Surprise

Andy cleared the path through the greenhouse area down to the orchard Tuesday and was surprised to see this “dead” fruit tree with blossoms. It burned up in the 2011 fire, but apparently had regenerated from its roots. He can’t remember what tree it was, but if it was one that hadn’t been grafted to root stock from another variety, we may get some good fruit from it this year. He’s hooked it up to the regular watering system, so we will see.

He was also pleased to see Torben’s daffodils blooming down in the orchard.

Winter is definitely over!

  1. no doubt you will tell us, if spring has sprung away…but it does look promising, especially since a burnt tree wasn’t about to give up!

Even if we get more storms, they will be spring storms, not winter. Once the bees come out it has to be spring. 🙂

What a nice discovery. It’s always a wonderful surprise to see something growing after you thought it was dead. We had a tree that snapped off in the wind the first year we planted it. It was fairly small. It ended up growing any way and is quite big now.

  4. It must be so hear warming to see something come back to life after all this time and what it went through.

That IS a great surprise – we hope you get lots of fruit. Our pear trees are just those ornamental ones that really stink when they are in bloom:)

That reminds me of a purple passion plant we had once — we were so excited when it started having flowers. Then we smelled them — yuck!
