Glasses

Can anyone else relate to this, or is it just me?

  1. The OP Pack says:

Yep, Mom can. She has “bifocal” contacts that are supposed to be for reading and distance. The distance is good, but the reading is only fair. Sometimes she needs to add reading glasses. Then there are the “progressive” glasses she wears when she isn’t wearing the contacts. The reading is good, the distance only fair. And then there is babble about needing cataract surgery in the next couple of years. Then what?

Some people like their new built-in prescription after cataract surgery. I’ve had the operation in just my left eye, which has other retinal problems, so it helped some but not a lot. I’m so paranoid about my eyes I never tried contacts. As long as I can keep functioning I won’t complain! It’s scary stuff.

  2. I can TOTALLY relate to this! My “good” glasses just broke, and even though we managed to do a temp fix on them at work (a dental office is just full of cements!) right now I’m using a combination of my old and new glasses and it’s making me crazy! But I gotta get used to it until I can get my new ones picked out and ordered. –Thankgoodness I was able to get an eye exam last Friday before leaving town!

    • Jean says:

I’m happy that you could patch them and get your new eye exam. I buy inexpensive spare glasses at Zenni Optical for peace of mind. Of course, we’ll have to see if the price will go up a lot because of the trade war. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I’m supposed to wear glasses all day long….but a number of years ago, maybe when I got a pair for uni/computers – I didn’t seem to need my bifocals and I now only wear them when I go out, as they are handy for long distance “is that my bus number?” – however this morning, I had them on, saw a vehicle on another property and was curious as people their work and it had logo on it…I had to fetch them though! When I’m looking on retailers shelves I have to take them off…can’t see much at all…

    • Jean says:

I’ve had bifocals in the past, but I also need prisms, which can’t be ordered with bifocals. So I wear shirts with front pockets to carry the prescriptions I’m not wearing at the moment. It saves a lot of time looking for glasses. ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. Ann Thompson says:

Oh absolutely, especially the glasses to find other glasses.

  5. Diane Dahli says:

My eyes are complicated too. I have a rare retinal condition, which shows up in wavy lines, and I am now apparently developing cataracts. The doctor won’t do the op until they get worse, he says! Fortunately, my vision is great when I am working at the computerโ€”I’m grateful for the vision I do have.

    • Jean says:

Computers are a real blessing for me too.

I’ve had the cataract operation for my left eye, and we’re watchfully waiting for the right one. They’re fairly safe, but it’s best to be cautious.

  6. Mike Goad says:

Actually, not so much as I often go without them most of the day. Sometimes, though, it takes a while to find where I left them. Yesterday, for instance, I found them hiding on a quilted table runner that has colors very close to the same as the frames of my glasses.

I do have cataracts and am hopeful that the surgery, when they get bad enough to need it, will improve my vision so that I don’t them at all.

    • Jean says:

There’s a good chance that you won’t need glasses after the operation. — I know a lot of people who have had that result. Fingers crossed.

I’ve worn varifocals for some years and as I wear them all the time there’s nothing to lose! I only change my glasses when I need sunglasses.

  8. Linda says:

Computer glasses. I used to have those, too, but now I just use my bifocals so I’m down to two pair–sunglasses and clear lens glasses. Both are bifocals.

    • Jean says:

That’s great that you don’t need computer glasses. Those are the ones I use most of the time. I only use my distance glasses when I go out of the apartment.
