7-07-19 Walk in the Valle Grande

June 16, 2019

June 16, 2019

They fixed the washout, so Andy, Beate, and Tim went on part of the June 16 walk again. This time they drove more before walking and were able to go farther. They walked about 11.5 miles round trip.

The weather wasn’t as nice, but they didn’t get rained on. And they saw a bear in addition to all the prairie dogs.

Some of the rest of the pictures Beate took are in this Flickr album.

  1. wow, again can’t imagine seeing a “bear”….

    • Jean says:

Some roam around our residential areas here, especially when people have fruit trees or hummingbird feeders.

  2. The OP Pack says:

Mom says she would be running the other way if she saw a bear on our walks:)

Andy says he thinks this bear either didn’t notice them or else didn’t care that they were there.

My favorite bear story was years ago when I heard some crashing in the bushes up on the land and quickly walked away from it. Then I decided I was being silly, it was probably just some elk, that’s why Andy always saw more elk than I did. Yeah, sure. A few minutes later Andy called excitedly, “Hey, Jean! Did you see the bear going down the road?”

  3. Ann Thompson says:

Wow, those three sure put on the miles. I wish I could walk that much. I’m thinking spotting that bear would have me freaking out..lol

  4. Walking is supposed to be so good for your health, Andy and Tim will life to 120 if the bears don’t get them first. Just kidding. I’m sure bear attacks are rare.

    • Jean says:

Yes, bear attacks are rare because bears are usually afraid of humans. That’s why it’s so important humans don’t feed them so they lose that fear. “A fed bear is a dead bear.”

I’ve never seen a bear except at the zoo, but we’re going to Nova Scotia in the autumn and I see there are many black bears (the timid ones) in the province. Hopefully we’ll glimpse a few.

  6. Diane Dahli says:

The bear doesn’t seem very afraid. But I notice he’s not walking towards the people!
