Dogs and Cats

On yesterday’s post Ann commented that she would like to get a cat but doesn’t know how her pup Gibbs would react. It’s hard to predict. Kaitlin and Torben had two cats, Boomer and Has, before they got Sammy and Banshee, their first two dogs, and the combination didn’t work. They had to keep them separate because Banshee, one of the pups, had a strong prey drive so they couldn’t trust her around the cats.

On the other hand, Pam says Lily gets along fine with dogs, and who would have guessed this pup and kitten would become good friends?

  1. I wonder if its related to their genetics – dependent on the original breed of the animal. Or if you get a cat/dog later in their life and they have the owners’ take on their behaviour.
The dog on the other side of our back fence, definitely has a problem with cat/s – as soon as one is even walking along the top railing of fence, the dog is rushing the fence…but then the family that own that dog, has issues of their own…
If the more adult dog has mothering instincts that might account for loving a kitten…

What a sweet video – that would never happen here:(

  3. Loved watching that video.

It’s best to take your dog to the humane society and let her or him pick out the kitten/cat that seem drawn to each other.

Good idea. When I was volunteering at our local animal shelter we always tested the dogs for their reaction to cats. Some were just fine, others not at all. The potential adopters often needed to know.

That’s so sweet! What a tolerant good dog.
Luckily my pets all get along, although Birdie, still being a puppy, does like to chase the cats. Both she and Nora will stalk the cats sometimes, to herd them but they do that to the little dogs too. It’s just a Border Collie thing.
But Birdie and my Siamese Firth, roll around and play really rough. Sometimes I have to break it up, especially if Birdie starts dragging him around by his ear!
    Cute video. Thanks for sharing!

The amazing thing is how big Beck is and how little Blue is, and yet Beck plays gently with her in spite of the play bared teeth.

this was just beautiful to watch.
my Zeke loved kitties. they didn’t always necessarily love him back. 😀
but then Zeke seemed to loved everything and everybody.
which was odd given that he was a rescue… found wandering in a mall parking lot… with broken ribs. he had been abused the vet said.
but his basic nature was love.
I miss him to this day.

Those two are really cute together. Somehow I don’t think Gibbs would be that good with a cat.

This reminds me of my daughters dog and cat…you can see photos of them on my Pics and Pieces blog. Just look for Delta in the labels or put in search box. I have never had any trouble with having cats and dogs together till the two I have now…two cats that hates dogs. They get after a dog if it wanders into the yard, and they hate my granddigs.

    Granddogs, not granddigs
