Preparing for the New Layer and Electrical Grounding

Yesterday they added more rebar to the concrete blocks and prepared the forms for the 11″ concrete layer that will go on top of them. They hope to pour the concrete Friday.

There are are a few more pictures on Flickr.

They also worked on the grounding for the electrical and lightning protection systems.

    hope the weather co operates!
is Andy driving back and forth to the site every day?
or actually maybe he’s always done that anyway! 🙂

    • Jean says:

He drives back and forth almost every day even without the construction. We are supposed to get some rain, and we hope it doesn’t mess things up too much. As usual, fingers crossed.

I guess tomorrow will tell the tale…I hope it goes well…

They are making great progress on this.

  4. Seems like the weather has been great for them to be working in and they are getting things done. Nice….progress, that means a lot.

Our fingers are crossed that the contractor will have things ready for the fellow who actually installs the greenhouse. The installer’s guess was the week of the 23rd.

  5. What direction did they orientate the block wall? Were passive solar incorporated into the plans?

    • Jean says:

Yes, the wall is oriented towards the south. There will be an insulated wall behind it so all the heat stored in the massive wall will radiate into the greenhouse. There will be an air space between the two walls so any heated air can be vented back into the greenhouse. That’s what those holes in the wall and concrete layer are for. I think it’s the top ones that will have fans.

(Actually if/when he uses the fans then it won’t be completely passive)
