Trip to the Land

We had a picnic supper up on the land last night and went into the greenhouse.

Andy measured the temperatures.

And I saw his watering can and the seeds he will plant as soon as the electrician finishes and Andy can start regulating the temperature.

It was cool and breezy outside and 97°F inside at 5 pm. Today he said the wind was howling and the temperature outside was in the 30’s but it was 110°F inside. That’s way too hot for his radishes, so he will need the fans once they are hooked up.

Good to see you about to make full use of the greenhouse after all those long months of planning and building. It’s hard to believe you need fans – right now it’s 7C here!

Well it sure is doing a good job of keeping things warm.

  4. Are you planting right in the ground or having raised beds or both?

  5. Mildred says:

Wow, your temps are cool! I love the green house. Those are some favorite veggies of mine. Best wishes with planting/growing.

We are astounded at the progress since we last visited. Wow, let the planting begin.

I have always wanted a greenhouse. But I now live in a condo, no chance of doing it now (sigh). I guess, I can live vicariously, watching you and Andy enjoy yours!

  8. Rose says:

What a difference in the temp!

  9. Let the fun, fine tuning, and planning begin – I’m going to live vicariously through you! I’ve always wanted a greenhouse, there are so many possibilities!

We will let you know how it goes — it’s a big experiment. The trick is to keep the air and soil temperatures low enough during the day and warm enough at night. The idea is to pump as much heat into the heat-storing wall as possible so it can keep the greenhouse from getting too cold at night. Andy’s trying to extend the season as much as possible, but we don’t know how well it will work.
