No Land Today

The highway up to the mountains was washing out in one spot, so they’ve been working on it. At times the traffic was reduced to one lane, governed by a stop light that worked very well. Today, though, they closed both lanes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., without telling the fellows there how long it would be. So Andy made two other attempts after he was turned away the first time.

We have now figured out how to get the information on the web if it happens again. It’s interesting they didn’t tell the fellows working on it — once again, score one for the internet.

  1. Traffic cams here in the big city are great for looking at traffic flow before we leave the house. Glad you would access to information.

When I have to go any place that is out of my normal range, our state has a page that lists closings/road construction. But every now and then they don’t miss something. Still, it is better than nothing.

Next time we will have sense to check. As you say, it’s better than nothing. This is presumably just a one-day thing, so I didn’t expect it to be posted.

good luck in it only being a one-day thing!

If Andy hadn’t stopped at the hardware store this morning he would have made it just fine — they timed the closure so commuters wouldn’t be affected. The only problem was we didn’t know about it ahead of time.

The internet is a wonderful thing. How did we ever get along without it…lol

Andy and I went to an open house at our local assisted living facility. It didn’t look bad at all, except the only internet is in the library. That would really cramp my style! I’m always asking questions and finding the answers on the internet.

  5. here NZTA has updates on where roads will be closed, a lot of on/off ramps to the motorways are often affected at night…and there seems to be ongoing.

in the city, there is a huge disruption where they are making an underground rail line that traverses up the city and comes out at Mt Eden…it will cut off quite a few minutes for me to get to the city when it’s finally operating but now I think my bus terminus in the city has moved 3x!

but often you just go around a corner and there is the closure. There is a big roading operation on Golf Rd at the moment – and my bus that goes to BB (and of late doctors clinic) is now going up and around the closure, it means getting off a bit further back – and the one to go home is in a rather bad placed, because now the drivers don’t see you until the turn down/around the corner….in a few months time the operation will reach the little block of shops it will be interesting getting across the road, as there’s a ped-xing just there…
