Even though the plants grow, the seeds haven’t been germinating very well. So Andy bought an automatic seed-heating mat to try. He’s insulated it from the ground so we don’t waste our solar-generated electricity:
We will let you know if it works. Another experiment.

Oh, I bet that works…
There’s a good chance it will help. Right now Andy hasn’t put any dirt or seeds in the container. He wants to make sure the thermostat works first.
now that greenhouse is keeping Andy well and truly occupied…no grass growing under his feet OR a walking chair calling him back home 🙂
walking = rocking chair, where is my brain power!
Actually he has two rocking chairs up there — one inside, the other outside. He sits in one of them every day, for from five-ten minutes to up to an hour, depending on how much sleep he had the night before. 🙂
Good luck – we have a feeling it is going to be successful.
Woos, Lightning and Timber
We’re guessing it will help. but at least it’s fun to try.
Andy’s hobby “farm” is sure good exercise for his brain and body.
Yes, and both are important. “)
my dad would have loved this contraption. he grew 90 percent of our food when I was growing up. he built a seed bed using 2 x 5 boards and two old glass French doors. built a box, hinged the doors and planted seeds in side. they grew to plants and he removed them and placed in the ground… he would be shocked at solar also.
90% of food is a lot!
I’ve never heard of one of these and it will be interesting to see how much of a difference it will make.
I’m curious too. 🙂
