Four months later we have one carrot coming and a lettuce plant. Andy cut most of the lettuce leaves and brought them home the other night. In spite of what we read that lettuce is hard to grow, the leaves were tasty. And we’re hoping more will grow on the plant. It just goes to show, you can’t believe everything you read, sometimes it pays to learn from your own experience.

Isn’t it wonderful that ‘they’ are wrong sometimes. On the other hand, maybe you guys did something just right. It will interesting to see if more grows from this plant…
We’re having a good time trying things and seeing what works and what doesn’t. It’s a great hobby to have right now — it, and blogging, make it easy for us to keep our social distance from others and still be connected.
Mom is on her way – between those radishes, tomatoes, carrots, and lettuce, a great veggie platter is on the way:)
Woos, Lightning and Timber
I wouldn’t count on too many carrots. After over four months this solitary one isn’t ready to pick yet. 😀 We still don’t know why more didn’t germinate, but we’ll plant more after things warm up a bit.
can’t explain it. it just makes me happy!
It makes Kaitlin and me happy too!
Lettuce can’t be hard to grow. I’ve done it in containers on the deck and it is SO good! One of the few plants I grow every summer. Yours looks really healthy!
love the idea of the vege platter…
with suddenly being grounded (I’ve posted about it over my blog) I was thinking I should invest in a glass house (semi-portable) or maybe I should have gone into the garden store I passed by this morning and bought some seeds…I have a few pots outside.
Growing something in pots is an easy way to start, and watching things grow is always good for our health and our spirits.
this is just to cool for words. I love it.. I just showed this to bob and we thought maybe we could grow lettuce and carrots in buckets. we have year round growing weather here in FL. great post and very interesting.
Yes, growing in buckets is a great idea. 🙂
Personally I think it depends on the person trying to grow it sometimes. Some people have and some people don’t. I am horrible at growing things.
In that case you can always find especially hearty plants. Our pothos has thrived for almost 30 years in spite of our neglect.
Although apparently they’re toxic to pets, so not a good idea if Gibbs would chew on it.
I think anything will grow in that beautiful greenhouse.
A lot of our seeds didn’t germinate, so we have to figure out why. That’s part of the fun.
