Sweet Pup!

The above picture is from a Boston Globe article on the importance of wearing face masks when we go out in public. The couple is coming home from the pharmacy and the pup is carrying the bag. It’s not only a reminder about wearing masks, it also explains why animal shelters are doing a booming business in pet adoptions. That’s one small upside of the virus.

Another upside in Japan is that with people wearing masks in public and taking other precautions for the coronavirus, the number of people with the flu is the lowest, according to data going back to 2004. Individual precautions do make a difference.

good idea …love the photo.. and the fact that flu is down.. I am sure sheltered in place has cut back on all contagious diseases. the worst thing is the world is fast going bankrupt…. and the poor are getting poorer and are hungry.. and no money to buy prescriptions… that is even scarier than the virus to me.

Still very few people here wearing face masks though people are observing the distancing rule very conscientiously. But I think everyone’s itching to get back to some semblance of normal life!

I saw your comment on the Misadventures of Widowhood. I am not sure where you live but here in Nashville not many people are wearing masks – I have not seen one in over a week. Wearing masks and staying home makes a huge difference, as well as being able to test many people quickly and have equipment in hospitals. My son-in-law who is a physician and quite exposed right now with only 4 N95 masks in the ER told me he could not believe that the US was not even as good as a third world country like Vietnam. So I checked – Vietnam has 241 cases with zero death so far for a population of 95.5 million, versus Tennessee with a population of 6.77 million had as of yesterday 3,321 cases and 43 deaths, but then the governor is timid about enforcing health measures (afraid to displease the president I guess.)

We really blew it on the testing even though we had plenty of warning. We also did simulations a few years ago of a pandemic like this, but we didn’t do anything to prepare. And Trump and Fox News downplaying the problem for so long means even more deaths. 🙁

We live in the mountains of northern New Mexico. So far only one confirmed case in our little town, but that will no doubt change soon. I didn’t see nearly enough masks in the grocery store Friday night, but on the whole New Mexico has been good about social distancing.

Fingers crossed for your son-in-law. That’s scary!

I’ve read that one reason the Southeast Asian countries took it more seriously was because their economies were severely hit by the SARS pandemic in 2002-2003. They learned a big lesson from that.

That dog look like he takes his job very seriously. Gibbs would be ripping in to that bag and tearing it to shreds 🙂
