Actually it wasn’t so little — it was 12″ in diameter, but I feel some affection for it.
What happened? A gust of wind blew it off the wall and it broke when it fell.
Where did the gust come from? Our winds often come from the west and some of the gusts are strong. There was no problem in the winter because the intake vent on west was blocked off and insulated. Andy used the fan on the west (blowing against any wind) and the intake vent on the east.
It’s no longer winter so we’re going to need both fans and intake vents to keep the greenhouse from overheating. A gust of wind from the west came zipping through the vent and knocked the thermometer off the wall. Andy bought a new one and will mount it more securely.

I love big thermometers like that. I have one I can read from my bedroom…viewing it across the living room, kitchen and deck outside.
We can relate to that. The new thermometer is even bigger — Andy’s hoping to mount it so he can read it from the house.
its size and numbering reminds me of the clocks we used to have in school.
we’re expecting strong winds tonight as a train of thunderstorms and big hail marches through. 🙂
Yes, they remind me of those clocks too. I miss them. Good luck with the weather.
wow….
Yes, 🙂
Too bad about the thermometer. I’ve had several that size over the years. All were outside and were done in by one weather condition or another.
I do love the big faces, though. 🙂
in the past we had one like it, wind blew it off and the next and the next ones were not that big and good.. the bigger the better for us since we both have trouble with the smaller ones. we have a big one now, bought it a couple months ago and hope it is secure. i love your green house and the veiws surrounding it
Fingers crossed your new one is secure and survives. 🙂
I need one of those! Did not realize till now.
They really are neat. But down here we have digital thermometers. From the display in the living room we can read the temperature there plus the temperature outside and in two of the other rooms. We’re spoiled. 🙂
RIP, little Thermometer. We hope your replacement works well. Have to keep those growing things at the right temp:)

Thank you. 🙂
