Yesterday Tim, Andy, and Beate removed the last three standing big trees in the defensible space.
Tim cut them down, Andy sawed them up, and Beate removed the pieces to a hopefully safe distance.
The area looks a bit barren now, but hopefully it reduces the fire danger.

amazing. I know they’re dead but when they’re cut… they don’t look it!
so sad they couldn’t be saved. but they will make good firewood? hopefully.
so at least they are recycled in a way.
Some people have come up to get firewood, but there are way too many dead trees for that. We used to burn a lot of slash in bonfires, but now we need a permit to have one, even in winter. Eventually they will rot but that takes forever because of our lack of rain.
So much work to be done. We hope the fires stay very far away. Stay safe.
Thank you. 🙂
Fire is so scary. Hope all your preparation pays off.
Thank you. 🙂
phew, that’s a job well done – and at least you’ve all done the best you can…
Yes. They did a great job. It would have taken Andy a LOT more time if he had to do it by himself.
Those three are quite a team getting all that work done.
Yes, Beate and Tim were an enormous help.
I like The View with the dead trees in it and I like The View with the dead trees down. Too many dead trees are works of art. I do hate that they died by fire! Good job guys and I do hope that there is no fire that comes anywhere near your property
It looks really bare now, but it’s better than a new fire.
Good work creating defensible space. As hot and dry as it’s been the fire danger is very high.
That’s the way it was here in 2011…a tinderbox waiting for a match. Good luck!
I know it is a relief for them all to be down and cut up. I have never been close to a forest fire and hope I never am.
I hope you never are too!
