Dumpster Diving

When Andy was emptying the garbage this morning his glasses somehow fell into the dumpster. So he came back to the apartment, got the step ladder and a stick to hold the lid of the dumpster up, and started to look for the glasses. A young woman came by and insisted that she do it for him…she was afraid he was going to fall in. He now has his glasses back and has to admit, maybe the mirror isn’t telling such big lies after all.

LOL. oh peacock! it could happen to anyone!
but I’m glad she came along! xoxo

  2. The OP Pack says:

LOL – that must have been embarrassing too. But that lady was so nice to offer to help. There are some good and kind people out there.

  3. I always love when someone shows up at the right time to help me at one of my “wrong moments” and I’m glad someone was there for Andy too!

    • Jean says:

He’s sure he could have done it by himself. He had already spotted the glasses and was going to reach down to get them. Apparently she worried that he would go too far over and wind up down with the glasses.

  4. Very time I look in the sump pump to check it I hold on to my glasses because I fear they’ll fall in. I’ll bet Andy will do that in the future. Glad he got his glasses back. What a great young person to fish them out of the dumpter!

    • Jean says:

Well, “young” is in the eye of the beholder. I asked him tonight how young she was… under 60 I imagined. He said she was probably middle aged, but very agile.

He wasn’t wearing the glasses. They were his reading glasses and in a glass case in his shirt pocket. The case is leather and hooks around the pocket so it won’t fall out when he bends over. The trouble is he was lifting a box up to empty the papers in it and the case caught on the box and it and the glasses went into the dumpster with the contents of the box.

We had a good laugh about it, and I doubt it will happen again.

Bless her heart!! Not many would go thru the garbage for someone they don’t even know. This is heartening in a time when I am losing faith in humanity.

    • Jean says:

It was heartening. Fortunately it’s rare to see wet garbage in the dumpsters. People put the wet stuff in plastic bags, so retrieving the glass case and glasses wouldn’t have been messy. It was still sweet of her.

  6. Andrea says:

Awwwww…. what a nice gal! Andy needed the help… and we all needed the story. Thank you for sharing, Jean! Love, Andrea xoxo

    • Jean says:

He says he didn’t really need the help, but he graciously accepted it. I, of course, was thrilled he did. It’s too great a story not to share. 😀

  7. Ann Thompson says:

That was nice of the woman to help. I know how easy it is to have glasses fall off like that. Lucky for Andy it was a dumpter and not a burning barrel like mine fell in to.

  8. Hootin Anni says:

I look much older than my husband that is years older than I am…I figure I am in the same boat as your Andy! Now…I hope he disinfected his glasses!!

  9. Madsnapper says:

My glasses fell on the ground are red of the pavement when I came out of Walmart because I made the mistake of jerking the dreaded mask off walking to the car and it caught in the glasses and knocked them on the floor but they didn’t break and I was so thankful for that. And I know he was thankful that Along came a kind person that helped him get them out but it is hard for a man to admit that they can’t do something or maybe that they shouldn’t do it. Anyway glad you got the glasses back and like Jenny said it does restore some faith in mankind

    • Jean says:

That was great luck with your glasses. In fact, Andy didn’t need help, but she was so nice he wasn’t about to say no.

  10. that’s a sweet and loving kind of story…and yep, maybe the mirror is showing a different picture to the outer world…I wonder what the woman would say if he need about his duties at the land, the snow plow to begin with.

all ends well so that’s the main thing…

    • Jean says:

That’s the thing. People think he’s more helpless than he is. He doesn’t get offended…mainly we’re grateful that some people are so nice. Even if he didn’t need help, some people might.

  11. Bruce Taylor says:

I need a young lady around here to protect me from myself!

  12. Rose says:

I am just glad he knew they fell in! Does he wear them all the time? Roger will not wear his all the time, but will hook them on his tee-shirt and could drop them without noticing.

    • Jean says:

He needs them for reading so he keeps them in his pocket. The case is hooked onto his pocket so it and the glasses won’t fall out. Unfortunately if got caught on the box as he was lifting it to empty it, but he’ll watch for that next time.
