Cheeky Squirrel

Kaitlin sent me this email the other day:

Now we have a cheeky squirrel! I was weeding and this guy came out to tell me what’s what!

It was slowly walking towards her as she talked to it, but when she took the picture and it heard the click, it turned around and hopped away.

It wasn’t as cheeky as the chipmunk, but it was clearly used to people…and used to sharing their yards.

It reminds me of a rabbit up on the land a few years ago. Andy was walking on the path down to the old greenhouse area and the rabbit was sitting on the path. Andy looked at it, and it looked at Andy while Andy kept getting closer. Finally the rabbit decided Andy wasn’t going to go around it, so it hopped to the side, just off the path. When Andy came home that night he complained,

I don’t get any respect up there.

Yes, It is a bit disconcerting when you don’t even scare a rabbit.

    Andy is funny!

  2. Rabbit was just admiring your man and lost track of time.

I like the squirrels, you have to admire them for their tenacity. We have a lot around here, and they can get quite bold.

    • Jean says:

They are tenacious and are great acrobats. Which is why it’s hard to keep them from stealing food from bird feeders. πŸ˜€

  4. cute – from both the squirrel @ Kaitlin and rabbit @ Andy! And yep, remember your chipmunk… the only thing we have here is “rabbit”.

Actually, some one on the local f/book list is looking for the owner of the “white/brown” rabbit that is messing up her yard! Most rabbits in the city are owned by someone…

Respect is a two-way street! Both worked together to keep peace in my opinion.

That’s a brave squirrel. I like the rabbit story too.

    • Jean says:

I’m guessing the squirrel had good experiences with the people around there. Our deer around here tend to be semi-tame too. A few months ago when we drove into the parking lot of our apartments we had to wait until a small herd of deer finished crossing it. They were in no hurry.

I needed the smile today and you gave me not one but two smiles! Thank you. I can’t say anything about people talking to Chipmunks rabbits and squirrels because everyday of my life I talk to the lizards and frogs in our backyard. I spent about 10 minutes yesterday talking to the little female that Bob feeds at the pool Buffet. He Taps the net and the bugs fall out on the deck and she comes and eats them and she lets us talk to her and she looks for us

    • Jean says:

That’s neat. πŸ™‚ I talk to birds and little horny (horned) toads around here when I see them. But ours don’t get fed so they haven’t established relationships with humans.

    LOL! xoxo

  9. The OP Pack says:

The rabbits around here seem to be getting braver, or maybe dumber. They seem to wait longer and longer to run when we approach. If they only knew we can run fast too:)

Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber

    • Jean says:

I’m guessing your mom wouldn’t let you hurt a poor bunny. And I’m guessing the rabbits would start running sooner if you actually started chasing them.
