KB’s Bear Story

One of the most amazing bear stories I’ve read was KB’s A Magical Meeting with a Bear and Her Cub. She took this picture of a cub while the mother was watching from a distance.

KB had previously taken a course on bear behavior, so she was able to soothe the mother, take the cub’s picture, and walk away with Shyla, her canine buddy. Wow!

We remember that story very well. We are always amazed by the many adventures KB and her pups have in the Rockies.

  4. Ginny Hartzler says:

Wow indeed! It would have been so dangerous with the mother this close!

  5. Amazing story. Levi would have gotten me charged by the mama bear.

THAT’S the blog I was trying to think of! I’m so glad you’re familiar. Love, Andrea xoxo

  7. now that’s some post – and it makes you realise if you understand the “fear you have” you can overcome it. And knowing too what the “bear sounds” are…the picture she took quite astounding. I hope she got in touch with the tutors and told them how useful their course was, I’m sure she did…

  8. Ann Thompson says:

I’ll have to go read the story, that’s impressive

Totally awesome picture and I do love everything that KB does with her bears and her lions and her dogs. But I did miss this picture somehow. Thanks for sharing

Wowzer! Thanks for the mention of KB … I’m headed that way shortly. Oh, and that account last month of the bear attack. Sure not something we concerned ourselves over ‘back in the day.’

    • Jean says:

The attack was extremely unusual. I haven’t been up to the ski hill in years, but apparently they have (had before the virus?) more activities up there now…the bear had been eating unsecured garbage.

  11. Mmmmm… Pardon me, but I do not feel secure, with this story.

Know how to sooth a bear? Come on…..

    Yep, I am skeptical.

Actually, that is my default nature. ~grin~

That is a great photo and an amazing story. Thanks for sharing it.

I do think if you are around animals enough, you can recognize their moods.
    That is a remarkable story.

  14. Sandra K Stein says:

What a great picture of the cub.
I wonder how you soothe a mamma bear, though.

    • Jean says:

Apparently KB was calm and talked to the bear in soothing tones. Even though she took the picture, she didn’t get closer to the cub. One of the main reasons it worked was her dog remained calm and by her side. If Shyla had gotten excited and seemed threatening it would no doubt have been a different story,
