Smokier

We were under an air quality alert last night so we slept with our windows closed. It’s a bit smokier today than yesterday because of a new fire, but fortunately the smoke had eased some when we went to Santa Fe for Andy’s eye treatment this morning. I ended up waiting in the car for the two hours, with the windows partially opened, instead of having to go inside and wait with other patient family members…I figure the fewer people sitting there the better. Anyway, it turned out a lot better than I expected.

The forecast is,

Smoke and haze will likely impact much of the region through the end of the week as high pressure remains in place over New Mexico.

Last night we used fans inside and didn’t have problems sleeping, so we’re not too worried.

If we start having air quality alerts often, I might build myself an air purifier:

It’s nice to have contingency plans.

Well, that definitely does look a lot smokier than the skies we saw there earlier. Be careful, not good breathing in all that smoke.

  2. tammy j says:

thank you so much for that air filter video! I’m going to do that I think.
it’s bound to help with my COPD. and I’m glad it’s easing up for you a bit.
and I hope Andy’s eye appt went well. I would have stayed in the car too!

  3. Can’t be easy knowing where that smoke is coming from….

  4. Ginny Hartzler says:

Oh gosh, what a tough choice. Betweem covid people and fire smoke!

  5. looks like Practical Jean (CM) is onto dealing with creating another project for Andy – to keep you safe. Or are you going to put it all together P/Jean…

  6. Hootin' Anni says:

What’s needed is a good, multi-day rainfall! Hope his exam went well & just an annual check-up.

    • Jean says:

Not likely to have that much rain, but hopefully we will get some.

Unfortunately, the trip to Santa Fe wasn’t for an annual checkup. He has to get shots in his eyes periodically, Yesterday it was for the left eye, November 2 will be for the right one. At first he had to have them every month for each eye. Now it’s more like every three months. They’re not fun but so far they’ve preserved his vision so we’re grateful.

That’s a pretty neat idea with the fan.

i will store this in my memory bank, ha ha on that. what a good way to filter the air.. our ac guy that installed our new ac told us we were using the wrong filter, that we need the one similar to this, i still have to find one in our size. thanks for sharing. glad you could sleep with just a fan. i have scent allergies and smoke would make it really difficult for me to breathe.. about the awkward thing of camera on wrist, i forgot to put that i have added the floating button, it is in the phone, using the one on the cell camera is impossible, but with the floating one, i put it where it needs to be.

  9. Andrea says:

Oh my goodness… you folks be careful, Jean. The lungs… I always worry about people’s lungs. Love, Andrea xoxo

  10. Sorry it took me so long to get here. You stopped over a few weeks ago. You are a no reply so I couldn’t comment back to you. Thank you for stopping over.

  11. Myra Guca says:

What a novel solution! We’ve no issues with smoke, but with Tom’s COPD I’m always concerned about air quality.

  12. Rose says:

I just recently bought two air purifier things…hoping it would help Roger’s coughing but cannot tell it helps a bit. And I paid a lot more than that. But the only thing with the fan, neither of us could stand to hear it run.

    • Jean says:

I don’t like noise either. I think I would try having more than one and (assuming the purifier was doing some good) purify the air in one room, then shut if off and use that room while I was purifying the air in another room. Our air conditioner is in our living room and I sometimes get the room extra cool, then shut the AC off for a bit while I use the room. Not ideal, but it’s better than nothing.

  13. Thank you for explaining where you live.

    Stay safe!

  14. Andrea says:

I thought I’d put my answer here too, Jean… so you’d be sure to see it. 🙂

Wildlife stalking and eating each other isn’t “cruel”… it’s how God designed their life to be. It’s the wildlife food chain and it operates exactly how it should. Comparing the cruel act of wildlife relocation to the wildlife food chain is like comparing apples to clouds.

I’m not sure what you meant by this statement: “Nature is cruel. If it weren’t it wouldn’t have let the human population get so out of control it’s threatening all ecosystems on the planet.” I don’t understand this sentence at all. Maybe you could explain further?

    XOXO
