Guess What Came Yesterday!

We got an package yesterday…It contained a small part, but I was excited to see it. (The part is the little metallic thing in the upper left):

Here’s a closeup:

What is it? It’s the high-altitude jet for Andy’s Makita heavy-duty brush cutter.

He ordered the cutter last September so he could keep our defensible space cleared…doing it using hand clippers was too time consuming and hard on his back. The trouble is the instructions said he would need a high-altitude jet for it because of our location, and Andy would have to take it to an authorized dealer to have the part ordered and installed. The closest dealer was in Albuquerque, about 100 miles away, so he took the cutter down there and left it with the dealer. A week or so later he dealer phoned back and said the part didn’t exist, so Andy drove down and brought it back.

I contacted Makita, who said the part did exist, that I would have to talk to Walbro, the manufacturer of the carburetor. He also said Andy could use the cutter in the meantime, even though it wouldn’t work as well. The Walbro site gave a list of their distributors, so I contacted one of them and talked to Torrie. She was great, she didn’t brush me off when the part number wasn’t in their system. It took several phone calls and emails, but she contacted the factory, got the part number and ordered one. She said it might take at least six weeks, but that was fine. I half expected there to be another glitch, but it came. Bless Torrie and Walbro!

Andy will still have to make a trip or two to Albuquerque to get it installed, but he’ll wait until later in the year, when he stops needing the brush cutter for keeping the defensible space cleared.

It’s always nice when patience and persistence pays off.

  1. well you had me stumped on the title of the post…I read it on my phone in the middle of the night but really had to get some more sleep!

bingo, it paid off … making the inquiries and insisting on it all … and of course finding Torrie who wasn’t going to give up…

    nice one…

wow, this delivery might fit in the minor miracle list… almost a year to get it but they did it… good idea to wait until the brush cutter is not in use so much. hope it doesn’t take to much time to get it in there. I read your comment about the huge Avocado. it is an amazing tree and they have always been delish but this year he has not had one single one that did not turn black and rot, he has tried them at different times and they are just not edible

I love your avocado tree, and Andy and I were fascinated that the avocados are suffering from too much heat. It doesn’t bode well for the avocado tree Beate gave Andy for his greenhouse. Even if it ever bears fruit the greenhouse may be too hot for it.

that kind of renews your faith in customer service! it does my own anyway! 😀

Ugh … even as a passenger I used to dislike that trip to Albuquerque and back. Props to Torrie for going above and beyond! Nice to hear there’s still folks who put the ‘service’ in customer service.

  9. Well that’s pretty interesting!
