I love little otters. even knowing he doesn’t get eaten YET… my stomach was in knots! the guy said it was the third time he’d been on boat. I don’t think the Orca was going anywhere. I wish they could just get away with the little otter.
I love orcas too. but let them eat fish. not precious little otters!

This is a wise and careful otter. I lOVE otters, so what a treat this has been. I wonder how long the whale waited?

  3. Linda Sand says:

Beautiful pictures of the whale, too, but I hope it gave up before the boat had to move on.

  4. Bruce Taylor says:

Huzzah! Both orca and otter were very smart and the fisherman was a hero for protecting the little fellow. I hope it survived.

The question is who had the most patience, the fisherman or the orca. I have the impression the fisherman didn’t want to start the engines until the orca went away, but I could be wrong.

Rose below says she read the details under the video. It says the boat operator moved to a safe place and the otter plunged back inot the water.

That was very interesting to watch. The second time we see the otter come on the boat, he seems more calm. He seemed to sense that the fisherman wouldn’t hurt him. Hope all managed to move along safely.

  6. Rose says:

Well, that was something. I went and read the details under the video. After the orca was safely distance, he did move the boat to go to another place…when a safe distance the otter plunged back into the water.

amazing video. the intelligence of creatures (not the two legged) always astounds me.

YES!!! thank you! I never even thought to read on about it.
I appreciate knowing that. this kind of thing always stays with me in my mind.
so now it has a happy ending for me. so relieved.
otters have always been special little guys to me. I love the way they hold hands to keep from floating away from each other! 🙂

  9. I am betting Don did not get a single pic of the whale. what an adorable video and otter.. Yay for the otter winning to swim another day. love it

Despite the title, my heart began racing… and I’m sitting here talking to my tablet: “Come on, dude!” Thank you to Rose for putting my fears to rest.

  12. Very lucky critter!

How is your situation, with the distant fires?

    • Jean says:

Thanks for asking…our air quality is fine again. Fingers crossed it will continue. They’re making progress with the fires.

  13. Ann Thompson says:

Wow, isn’t that amazing. Very smart of the otter to use the boat to escape the orca. Looks like the orca was hanging around waiting for the otter to get back in the water though.

    • Jean says:

Yes, thankfully Rose read the details under the video. When the orca was at a safe distance the owner of the boat moved it to another place and the otter went back into the water.
