New Printer

Our new printer/scanner/copier came yesterday and I’ve set it up and am using it. It’s a lot flimsier than our old Canon printers…they lasted so long that Canon stopped updating the software. By the end they were good only as copiers, plus scanners using a third-party app. We kept them until they completely broke. (I printed remotely from my study to our HP in another room.)

HP extolls the virtues of the new machine (it shows the basalt one, mine is oasis, a shade of blue.):

I shut off the WiFi and am skipping the free ink. That would require letting HP monitor my ink levels via WiFi and sending out new cartridges when it sees fit. Some people have had serious problems with that and I don’t print that much to warrant the hassle.

So I’ve connected the machine to my computer with a USB cable and it seems to work the way I want it to. Fingers crossed.

Gosh, you know a lot about this stuff! We can’t even connect a printer!

    • Jean says:

Connecting the printer was my great accomplishment. I ignored the stuff in the video, but I made sure when I bought the printer I could ignore all the fancy stuff.

    I agree with Ginny!
and I never like things ‘automatically’ sent to me. never have liked that.
good luck with your new printer!

Despite being a techiphobe, I’m intrigued! Fortunately, we don’t print enough to make this a necessary investment right now. Hope yours is a great fit!

    • Jean says:

I dreaded having to buy a new one because they’ve made them so complicated. I read enough ahead of time to make sure I could ignore most of it.

  4. that’s great news, that it’s arrived and I’m sure whatever the learning curve is “you will master it”

We hope all continues to go well for you and the new printer. We have used Canon printers for a while now and have had very good luck with them. But HP is a great company too. We totally agree about the automatic renewal on ink cartridges. We prefer to get our own and take advantage of sales:)

I have a warm spot in my heart for Canons, but Amazon seems to prefer HPs and we like to be able to return things easily if they don’t work.

Sounds like a good printer but I would not like them deciding when I needed ink and sending it.

  7. my printer is HP envy a lot like this one. i just turned off the ink thing. I like mine so i can remote print to it with tablet, phone, desktop and laptop. i can print from anywhere in the house from all devices.. All the years of printers I have had 4 HP since 97 and 1 canon. did not like the canon and it dies quickly, so went back to HP. this one looks great… i don’t remember how to live without scanning abilities. these days i have papers to print and sign and scan and send… had to use stamps and the US post office before this

I have got a wireless HP printer…a very cheap one. Have had it for a few years and been pleased with it so far. I do have it wireless…I just chose not to have them do the ink. I never like stuff that is automatic …there has been a bad experience with one thing that taught me I never want to sign up for ‘them’ to send me on their schedule. Actually it was for Roger….I think he signed up. It was to do with diabetes…

I don’t want them deciding whether or not I need ink. Apparently they sometimes make mistakes and it’s a mess. I’m glad you like your printer. 🙂
