So we have our two Canon printers on the porch (32 pounds each) and last night our microwave convection oven (46 pounds) gave up the ghost. The two of us carried that to the porch too. We planned ahead and had a backup waiting, so we can still cook.
We’ll order a new spare because we do all of our cooking with either the microwave or in my Instant Pot. The apartment comes with a gas stove, but it’s not vented to the outside…I was having trouble with the fumes years ago, so I had them disconnect it.
One Toshiba microwave is less expensive and has higher ratings than the new Panasonic, but it weighs 35 pounds. Nope, that’s ten pounds heavier than the new one. Andy’s not even sure he will be able to handle 25 pounds in a couple of years.
We also have to deal with our 2009 desktop Mac.
It finally gave out this year but we’ve left it so far because it’s out of the way…it looks as if now is the time to deal with it. It weighs about 40 pounds, and we’ll have to unscrew the horizontal piece of wood over it. Once we get it on the porch we’ll try to contact someone to haul it all to the recycling center for us. (Assuming we can find someone.)
Also Bitdefender, my antivirus program, stopped working after the last upgrade of the Mac operating system. I phoned them about it and they said it was a known issue and they are working on it. Yesterday they wrote to thank me for my patience. The question is, should I get another program to protect my computer until the issue is solved?
So much for the challenges keeping us amused. The good news is Andy had his telephone visit with the neurologist Wednesday, and the neurologist was happy with the results from the spinal tap…because of what it didn’t find. It ruled out a lot of problems. He says Andy should keep taking the small dose of Keppra every day unless the symptoms come back…in that case he should increase the dosage. And Andy should schedule another phone visit in three months.
Actually that should be “Almost everything is falling apart.” We’re happy about that “almost”.
October 1, 2020
Well first, I hope your dear man continues thru the year with positive, good, reports…medically & physically. Good news is always worth a huge sigh of relief. “Bad things happen in 3s”…so, you’re set for BETTER things now. We too bought a smaller microwave in order to be able to move it around & clean it….smaller wattage, but we adapted.
Thanks for the good wishes. As you say, we have to adapt and it’s no big deal. As long as it’s not health related, no complaints.
Sometime it seems it doesn’t just rain, but it pours. On the other hand, you seem to anticipate things happening very well. We would suggest you find a college kid to come take care of that Mac for you and then take away everything. Best not to look for trouble. Take care.
We won’t take any chances. The porch is plenty big and they aren’t in the way. We’re thinking of talking to the management to see if they can find someone willing to do it for pay.
I’m pretty sure when we “buy an gadget” usually at great expense, we believe this will do me for the rest of my days! And then suddenly not only that one gadget but the rest feel the need to “die” – sometimes they limp along whilst other times they simply won’t work!
Here, you can have someone come pick up stuff, you pay a small amount of money and some nice strong guys turn up and “it’s gone…”
For some reason it seems a lot more complicated here to find someone. But we’re in no hurry.
Seems like things break all at once. But none of it matters compared to Andy’s health. So glad the tests came out good!
Thank you about the tests. In fact, it’s probably better when everything falls apart at once…then we can deal with it and not be interrupted so often.
When it rains it pours. It always seems that things break down in multiples.
That’s good news from the doctor about Andy
Yes. 🙂
It always seems to go that way, doesn’t it…one things goes, then two other things go at the same time.
Might as well get them all taken care of at once. 🙂
I am sure happy for the things not found with Andy. I agree that it is hard to find people to do jobs such as hauling off stuff. I am wondering what of ours will be next.
The nice thing is we have a big porch, so they aren’t in our way.
Thank goodness for Andy’s spinal tap results!
Love your decision to feel amused (v. angry) at the challenges Life’s been tossing your direction. ‘Attitude’ and ‘almost’ are key!
Amen to that!!
i feel your pain.. we are in the same boat you are, the whole year of 2020 it seemed every working thing in the house chose to die dead.. like the central AC.. I lived in a room for a while before I married Bob. had nothing but a one burner electric hot plate and a microwave, so know it can be done. I also feel the pain of too heavy for us to move stuff.
the little ac in the kitchen window, bob put it there 5 years ago because we had to wait a week for a part for the central unit. it is still there because we can’t move it. at that time he managed to get it from garage to window but nearly had another stroke doing it. he will not let me ask someone to come move it for us so there it sits
what i did with my old computer was remove all the guts and smash with a hammer and he took it apart and we slowly put pieces in the trash can until it was gone… good luck and now that i have rattled on, prayers for your hubby and glad that he found what he doesn’t have. it will be tough to get those things hauled off.
Don’t feel you need to keep your comments short. I love learning more about you.
I was about to comment and our electricity went off!
just now able to be back.
such GREAT news about Andy!
stuff comes and goes. but Andy… oh my.
and YOU!
keep yourselves WELL!!! 😀 xoxoxo
Thank you! Are you feeling any better?
Good to hear about Andy’s results.
Here we have Freecycle.com where anyone who wants it can come get your stuff without any money changing hands. We’ve used it several times with good results.
It’s a great idea. Things that are too good to throw away can find a good home and be appreciated.
