Two Surprises

It turns out Andy’s physical therapy appointment wasn’t canceled after all. He went and the gal told him to continue with the exercises. The big change is she wants him to come in the afternoon. He likes mornings so he can go up to the land afterwards and be free the rest of the day. The problem is his leg is all right in the morning, and she wants to see him when he’s limping around because of the pain. She’s right, of course, so his next appointment is at 3 next Tuesday afternoon.

The other surprise was we had to wait outside, in a socially-distanced line, for about nine minutes last night before we could get into the grocery store. That was a lot longer than we had to wait last spring. They’re limited to 75 people at a time (or 25% of maximum capacity, whichever is lower). The plus side was the store wasn’t crowded and we didn’t have a long wait to get checked out.

So yes, it probably does make more sense for Andy to see the therapist later in the day, and it is only one day of the week. We hope it all helps.

We have to wait outside here for some of the smaller grocery stores like Trader Joe and Whole Foods – been that way for months now. We heard on the news that Walmart was going to start limiting the numbers in the store, but we haven’t seen any checking of the numbers yet.

Anything we can do to be safe is good.

  2. those new surprises are thoughtfully worked out so that you life isn’t boring or run of the mill! One can get in certain habits that need a little jigging up or down…

I’m having a lot of the jigging down at the moment – a surprise as such that I clearly wish wasn’t even with me. But maybe it will make me a better retiree!

That’s a good point, spend more time playing, having fun in your new circumstances, and letting the idea of achievement go. If it happens, it happens, but life is too short to make it the goal.

  3. Rose says:

Maybe after the therapist sees Andy a time or two of the evening, she will let him go back to coming in the morning.

I am glad you didn’t have to wait long. I only had to stand in line for just a minute one time in all of this so far. I hope it stays that way.

    • Jean says:

We didn’t mind waiting because it was for a good cause. I’m happy the physical therapist said she wants to see him when his leg is painful. That should give her a more information to work with. He does plan to start taking walks again, and will try small amounts of acetaminophen to see if that helps.

  4. Ann Thompson says:

That does make sense to see the therapist when the leg is hurting.

  5. Hootin' Anni says:

Ohhhh, I don’t like to read that. A line at the store. I know it’s necessary, but I don’t have to like it.

That time frame for him to see the therapist makes a whole lot of sense. Hope she can then see the problem area and it’ll be successful.

  6. Bruce Taylor says:

We don’t go into grocery stores any more. We order on-line and have it loaded into the trunk in the parking lot. I say “we” because I have gone into a store a couple of times by myself and very early in the morning when there are only a few other people there.

    • Jean says:

We buy a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables, so we like to pick out our own. It is nice to have the option of them gathering up the stuff you want and bringing out to the car.

  7. Ginny Hartzler says:

Good grief! What grocery store was it? The trader Joes here has lines all the way down the parking lot. I hope with the P.T. seeing his leg at it’s worst, that will be a big help for his therapy.

  8. Glad for the continuation of PT.

We use “Hannaford to Go”… You give your order, on line. Pick your pick up time, from what is available. They have credit card, so you just call in (on the call box), when you get there, and they bring your food out and put it in your car.

When we want/need to go _into_ a store, we go, went they first open in the AM. It is uncrowded then. Some stores even set aside the first hour, for old people, and others, who need to avoid crowds.

These ways, we never have to wait in lines.

  9. Myra Guca says:

Therapists are right, of course … but that doesn’t mean we have to like it. (*grin*)
Our Wal-Mart’s begun counting shoppers, but the ridiculously long lines at check-out made for a less-than-pleasant experience. Now I’m fretting on behalf of those who have to do their shopping evenings or on weekends.

  10. Madsnapper says:

You do not want to hear how loud and long I won if I get an afternoon appointment. I tried to make all of them between the hours of 7 and 11 and anything afternoon just makes me upset. I see you in one of the comments that we need to get jig sometimes but I’m not sure I want to be Jiggles haha. I’m at my best in the morning also. We don’t have any lines here that I’m on my way are of at least not at Walmart which is where I shop and I sometimes shop in Publix so far no waiting but we’re not under the 25% in there right now. During the covid-19 shut down for four months they can of people as they went in but they don’t do that anymore. Of course I go to the senior shopping on Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. so that might be the reason why

  11. That is a good plan on the therapy. Waiting is never fun but less people in the store is a good thing. Take care and stay well.
